Reasons, needs & challenges 1/2 • To reduce electro-magnetic pollution in sensitive areas (especially those associated with high and medium tension elcteric cables); • To complete a series of urban regeneration actions in the historical center (initially started more than 20 years ago); • To initiate the removal of an electric sub-station located in one of the « key » areas for Lecce near future expansion; • To connect the city center with its outskirts through the creation of « healthy corridors »;
Reasons, needs & challenges 2/2 • To put the basis for city future development taking into account people’s health • To introduce the method of « public consultation » in any action involving the change of the territory (« participated » urban regeneration)
RESULTS RESULTS LECCE BHC URBAN REGENERATION – URBAN PLANNING AND ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY
Acting 1/2 • Actions at the local administration level to speed-up the process of completion of aerial cable removal in the city center; • Actions with experts and the National Body for Electric Energy (ENEL) to formulate plans for the sub-station removal; • Actions to submit the LAP at the regional level (MA) for its assessment and evaluation; • Involvment of citizens in understanding the importance of the LAP (this includes the use and link with local press); N.B.: you can duplicate this slide. Please, take into account that you will have 10 minutes for your presentation.
Acting 2/2 • Funds raising: mostly at regional level which is the main actor for European funds « competitive « distribution; • Emphasis on Urban regeneration (Axis VII – namely « competitiveness and attractiveness of cities and urban systems » and « governance, institutional ability and competitive and effective markets »); • Priority is given to projects which shows multi-facets aims in the context of urban systems, environment and urban sustainability as well as the involvement of several municipalities; The region intends to promote those projects that can be easily replicated.
Future steps • LAP implementation; • Proposal submission to the Regional Managing Authority – and possibly other EU project calls (perhaps LIFE+); • To maintain in life the LSG to further stimulate the application of the BHC good practices; • To continue to have meeetings to stimulate events aiming at promoting public events to improve « communication » between public administration and citizens.
