Project3 Q&A • What is Opus Search? Why were the results obtained using Opus Search more insightful, compared to Apriori? • Did the confidence/lift/support displays shed some light on any issues in using association rules mining? • Many approaches could only get simple 2-condition rules; what is the reason for this? • Pruning of redundant rules—did it help? • Most association rule packages offer all (e.garuleviz) kind a visualization tools; are those visualization tools just snick snack or are the useful for association rule mining? • What is the maturity of association rule mining tools? Comment on their usefulness to solve real world problems. • Most alternatives to Aprioriseem to work on transaction-based data structures. Any comments on the merit of this approach?
Project3 Q&A • Did you come across any success stories about association rule mining? If yes, what were the stories? • Any comment on the maturity of graph mining tools? • Did the association analysis tools you used meet your expectations? If not, what was missing? • Did you observe any new trends in the area of association analysis? Is there anything promising on the horizon? • Is there anything that should additionally be taught when covering association analysis in the course.
Some Comments on Project3 Reports • 3-4 reports fail to introduce the group’s topic at all or it is not explained transparently. • Writing a report is like telling an interesting story • Some reports spend 2-3 pages introducing algorithms that have been covered in the lecture—this is not necessary, unless the introduction is necessary for comparison purposes. • Some fail to introduce clearly what association analysis tools were used in experiments and/or what parameters were used in the experiment. • Some discussions switch between topics and sometimes the same topic is discussed more than once.
