Quality of Place Statement Steve Martin ViTAL Economy Alliance Create a concise statement describing what is special, unique and important about the Central Illinois region to the citizens that live there. What do the citizens value? The statement should include words, themes and impressions that are truthful and authentic to the citizens. • Description opinions, statements and impressions expressed by a wide variety of citizens. • Draft by August 30, 2012. Northern Maine Quality of Place Quality of Place consists of those characteristics of a community or region that make it distinctive from other places and attractive as a place in which to retire, work, or visit. Quality of Place encompasses a community’s natural and built environment, traditional town and city centers, civic traditions, historic and cultural amenities, recreational opportunities, and access to these. • Some Aspects of Northern Maine’s Quality of Place: • Deep sense of community • Socioeconomic and cultural diversity • Extended family ties • High degree of volunteerism • Beautiful open natural landscapes • Excellent trails and venues • Four distinct seasons • Noticeable positive work ethic • Abundant recreational opportunities with easy access

Southern Vermont Quality of Place Statement Allowing the stagnant economic and demographic trends that have persisted over the last decade to continue in southeastern Vermont threatens the Vermont Brand and post card perfect perception of our quality of place. It is time to stick a stake in the ground and say “enough is enough” and develop strategies and actions base on our assets to reverse those trends. Southern Vermont's Quality of Place Statement became more of a Mission Statement due to the linkage between Quality of Place and the Vermont Brand
