    3. Introduction The California missions were built in the 1700’s to show the Spanish religions and beliefs. The person who was responsible for bringing the missions to California was Christopher Columbus. The highway that connects all the missions, presidios, and pueblos is El Camino Real.

    4. Area In Which The Mission Was Built The mission is located in the city of Santa Cruz. The climate varies. In the Winter it’s in the forty degrees range and in the Summer it’s in the sixty degrees area. The people who lived in the area of Mission Santa Cruz were the Ohlone Indians. The natural resources are the San Lerenzo River and forests.

    5. Life On The Mission Life on Mission Santa Cruz was difficult for the Ohlone Indians. All the baptized children were called neophytes. The neophytes had to obey all the rules, and couldn’t practice their own religion any more. The mothers were locked away to do their work there. The Ohlone Indians were not allowed to leave the mission without permission. If the neophytes did not do their work they were put in leg irons or jailed.

    6. Rest of Life on the mission The chores that were performed were farming, building, blacksmithing, and making leather goods and tools. The people who performed the work were the Ohlone Indians. The crops that were grown on the mission were corn, beans and grain products. The animals that were raised on the mission were cattle.

    7. The Mission Today Today Mission Santa Cruz is a tourist attraction. The Mission Santa Cruz is in bad condition because of floods which cause the mission to be rebuilt and repaired. The mission is rebuilt and repaired because of floods.
