The War Generation V Presented by Yuri Barzov
Why Now? • Recent development of communication and information technologies broke the balance of energy in the system • More energy means CHANGE • Furthermore it means a cascade of changes to continue until the system reaches the balance again – bifurcation process • Even worse (or better) the current change seems to generate additional energy en course Presented by Yuri Barzov
"I am convinced that at present humanity is going through a bifurcation process due to information technology”. Ilya Prigogine Presented by Yuri Barzov
What Do We Fight For? • People forever fight for two basic things – power and money • The most successful leaders would fight for human souls to secure victory in struggle for power and money • The current war is for human brainpower – the most efficient tool to generate money and power of all times • IT IS DEAD SERIOUS Presented by Yuri Barzov
“From this point of view it is interesting that each bifurcation in the past resulted in people who benefited from it and in people who became victims”. Ilya Prigogine Presented by Yuri Barzov
No Comebacks • Each subsequent bifurcation in the genesis of our civilization had a higher pace of changes i.e. shorter periods of relative stability between significant changes. • Even in the industrial society it was still possible to apply same knowledge through the entire active part of individual’s life. • The most significant difference of the current bifurcation from all previous ones is that changes which make previous knowledge obsolescent happen several times during one person’s active period of life. Presented by Yuri Barzov
“Change before you have to” Jack Welch Presented by Yuri Barzov
Challenge Of Change • Need to resolve new problems • Need to resolve old problems in a new way • Experience to do old things in an old way doesn’t work any more Presented by Yuri Barzov
“The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn and relearn.” Alvin Toffler Presented by Yuri Barzov
Good News • Human brain develops its capacity basically in two ways: • By resolving new problems • By resolving old problems in a new way • “When a person begins to do something new, at first the entire brain is activated, but gradually some of its fields are turned off with only those functioning that are necessary for a particular type of activity”. Presented by Yuri Barzov
“But another thing is very important. In fulfilling "super-tasks," the brain of even a not very young person can create new connections and even form new neurons and nerve cells”. Natalya Behtereva Presented by Yuri Barzov
Death In The Middle • As the speed of change increases the pace of brain development also gains momentum – if you stop, you stay behind • Even the greatest leaders don’t really know who are their 70% in the middle and, I am afraid THEY DON’T REALLY CARE • If you don’t stick your head out (at a risk of it being chopped off) you‘ll inevitably sink to bottom • STICK YOUR HEAD OUT Presented by Yuri Barzov
“Self-actualization is not a possible aim at all, for the simple reason that the more a man would strive for it, the more he would miss it…. In other words, self-actualization cannot be attained if it is made an end in itself, but only as a side effect of self-transcendence.” Abraham Maslow Presented by Yuri Barzov
The Shift Of Paradigm • The war for talent means change of the entire management system not just HR function • The answers are available: • Principle centered management by Stephen Covey • Benevolent leadership by Tom Neff & Jim Citrin • Learning organization by Peter Senge • Leadership hints from Jack Welch, Alfred Sloan, Vince Lombardi and many others • The methods of the war for talent are applicable to all employees not just to the intellectual elite of organization • Change could only come from within Presented by Yuri Barzov
“If change is happening on the outside faster than on the inside the end is in sight”. Jack Welch Presented by Yuri Barzov
The Emerging Talent • The youngest generations at work have an excellent capacity for self learning • They are skilled to find relevant information via Internet • They have less communication barriers and more tolerance than any previous generation • They are motivated to achieve as much as possible in a shortest possible time • Indeed they are small generations compared to baby boomers but they have much higher percentage of people who meet the above criteria • AND THEY STILL HAVE PRINCIPLES!!! Presented by Yuri Barzov
"Winning is not a sometime thing; it's an all-the-time thing. You don't win once in a while, you don't do things right once in a while, you do them right all the time. Winning is a habit. Unfortunately, so is loosing…" Vince Lombardi Presented by Yuri Barzov
