Habitat , Climate and Landforms • Bearded Dragons live on Australia’s deserts • It is the only place where they are wild • Everywhere else there are held in captivity • A Bearded Dragon’s habitat is an arid rocky area • It’s the driest place on Earth and gets very little rain • There are cactuses , trees and bushes where their habitat is

  3. Food and Predator • Bearded Dragons are omnivores • They eat other lizards , insects and rodents • Sometimes they will munch on leaves and vegetables or fruits and flowers • Their predators are a Bald Eagle and other birds and snakes

  4. Behavior • Bearded Dragons keep cool in underground burrows • They stay warm by resting on sunny rocks • It runs away from predators on it’s hind legs • They make themselves look scarier by flattening their body • A Bearded Dragon licks things to explore • If they lick another Bearded Dragon they are seeing what it is about

  5. Reproduction • Bearded Dragons lay eggs in burrow • The sun keeps the baby Bearded Dragon warm • Bearded Dragons lay soft eggs so it’s easy for the babies to get out

  6. Species and Scientific Name • A Bearded Dragon’s scientific name is a Pogona • Their species is a reptile like snakes, crocodiles, turtles and lizards

  7. Physical Features • Bearded Dragons are about 1 to 2 feet long • Their gray/brown bodies are covered with scales • They have a throat pouch that looks like a Beard when they puff their pouch • Their nose looks like a dogs nose but smaller and a small hole for ears • They have small eyes that are a little bit bigger than a centimeter

  8. Lifespan and Are They Endangered • Bearded Dragons live for ten years • Bearded Dragons are not endangered because people like to have them as pet

  9. Physical Adaptations • Bearded Dragons have good hearing that helps them hear their predators when they’re coming • Bearded Dragons also have good sight that helps them see their predators if their predators are coming or are not coming

  10. Behavioral Adaptations • A Bearded Dragon tries to make itself look wider by flattening their body and that makes itself look scarier by doing so • It puffs up it’s pouch to look even scarier • That helps keep predators away from Bearded Dragons • If that doesn’t work they run away on their hind legs to make themselves look bigger so their predators won’t chase the Bearded Dragons

  11. Physiological Adaptation • A Bearded Dragon doesn’t sweat their skin keeps water inside of it’s body • This helps it to not dehydrate when water is hard to find • It’s bulky body allows it to store heat inside it’s body • A Bearded Dragon can stay in colder places than other lizards because it stores heat inside of itself

  12. Fun Facts • If a Bearded Dragon puffs up it’s beard it shows that they are stronger than other Bearded Dragons • A strong Bearded Dragon can bob it’s head up and down very quickly • A Bearded Dragon can climb trees and bushes
