  1. Chapter 6 Transnational Corporations location ◆ the location choose of foreign direct investment ◆the different sector location choose of Transnational Corporations ◆Foreign direct investment and its economic impact on the region

  2. SectorⅠ the location choose of foreign direct investment 一、The reason of foreign direct investment (一)Vernon’s product life-cycle theory (1966) The product lift-cycle model is associated with four stages of production which have clear implications both to the spatial division of labor and industrial location Manufacturing capacity shifts from core ares to peripheral areas and finally out of the country as products move through their life cycle .

  3. 1 .Infancy—product is developed and is sold as a niche product to the core region;labour force is skilled but small. 2.Growth—demand expands and production techniques become stangardised;labour force grows. 3.Maturity—little new research and development;production moves to peripheral areas where labour is cheaper. 4.Obsolescence—declining sales due to better or cheaper products from abroad;production moves to firms overseas or the product is superseded by new innovation.

  7. 二、Foreign direct investmen in which country (一) Factors influencing foreign direct investment ●Cost ● Market ● Factors input (二) Foreign direct investmen trends ● Cost and profit ● market ● factors ● strategy

  9. SectorⅡ the different sector location choose of Transnational Corporations Over the last thirty years the influences on industrial location described by the classical models have changed in importance factor in the location of manufacturing industries .the term spatial division of labour is used to describe the way workforce can influence location on a national or global scale .two models have been suggested .

  10. 一、Headquarters ● The top level where decisions are made and policy developed ● Workforce is managerial or secretarial ● Location is in a high order central place such as a capital city

  17. 二、Research and development ● New products are development ● Highly qualified technical staff ‘often with second degrees ● Location in core regions and increasingly in semi-rural science parks and technopoles
