Fifth Grade Striking with Racquets Objectives PE.5.MS.1.1 Execute combinations of more complex locomotor skills and manipulative skills specific to individual, dual and team activities. PE.5.MS.1.2 Use increasingly complex skills with power and accuracy. PE.5.MS.1.3 Illustrate mature form in combining locomotor and manipulative skills for traditional and non traditional activities. PE.5.MC.2.2 Evaluate movement and game skills in order to provide feedback that will lead to improvement. What does that mean to you? In this unit your teacher will want to see you use a racquet to strike an object. You will need to be able to name all 6 of the essential elements to striking as well as use them. You will need to be able to rally a ball with a partner at least 7 times in a row. You will also be asked to think about your play during the rally and how you could improve it. Essential Elements of Striking: 1. Flat paddle (keep flat as a pancake) 2. Stiff wrist (keep your wrist tight, don’t let it flop around) 3. Keep eyes on the object 4. Side to target 5. Step in opposition (just like in throwing) 6. Elbow away (keep your striking arm elbow away from your side)
Fifth Grade Striking with Racquets Summary In this unit you will asked to show your teacher that you can name all 6 essential elements to striking and that you use them while striking a ball back and forth with a partner at least 7 times. You will also need to review your play in the game and come up with some ideas to improve your play. Essential Elements of Striking: 1. Flat paddle (keep flat as a pancake) 2.
