Managing Expectations • Be proactive: “If you fail to plan, then you plan to fail.” • The choices you are making now will impact your future • Learn to manage STRESS!
Stressed? Desserts! • Take time to relax and renew yourself. • Learn that it’s okay to say “NO.” • Stop worrying about what’s not in our • control. • Don’t be your own worst enemy! • Implement time management and goal • setting techniques.
Time Management There are basically four ways to spend time. Which one is most like you? • Procrastinating • Slacking • People Pleasing • Prioritizing
Begin with the end in mind. • What is your goal? Use the SMARTgoal technique to clarify your goal: • Specific • Measurable • Attainable • Realistic • Timely
Stay organized. • Use a planner. • Schedule big items first then smaller commitments next. • Adjust – be flexible not stressed.
First Generation Students • Unique situation but not alone. • Prepare for family response. • Identify people who are supportive of your journey. • Stay focused.

Tips for Success Successful people realize: from time to time they have to do things they don’t like (missing the party for studying for a test, eating Ramen Noodles instead of eating out, visiting family instead of Spring Break in Daytona ) Why? Because they remember to “look up” to realize their ultimate goal and stay focused.
