  9. 5 Land and Planning Issues Erf 49845 – Kirstenbosch drive (shop): - Application to rezone to special business – Given up Erf 49837 – 68 Riverside Road: Bambino’s crèche - Council has approved with conditions. Neighbours are comfortable with conditions Erf 157050 – 22 Orchard Heights: - Extension of double dwelling. New set of plans submitted.Residents currently in appeal process Chinese Embassy (21, 23 and 25 Rhodes Avenue): - Has “Foreign Soil” status IZS – no further information. May take another year

  12. 7 Membership and Subscriptions • Fernwood Households - 673 • FRA Membership – 446 (66%) • ADT subscription – about 500 (74%) _________________________________ • A “war chest” is needed to cater for pending legal activities - increase to R150 • Continue collect membership fees via ADT mechanism (alternatively EFT/cheque) • Separate invoice / receipt

  14. 8 Traffic Matters and Dogs • Enforcement of road signs by traffic department - monitoring continues… • Some residents still objecting to no-entry signs Barking Dogs and False Alarms • Two official barking dog complaints • A reminder of the official ruling: no more than 2 dogs per property are allowed • False burglar alarms continue to be an issue

  15. 9 Kirstenbosch • FRA and BCRA support Kirstenbosch activities • Cliff Richard concert was a problem this year - ending late with high sound volumes • K does not want to exceed 2 International events per year • The number of nights for each (1 to 3) depends on bookings • Will try to start concerts at nightfall and end by 10pm • Sunday concerts irreducibly involve the following: • setting up begins after 10.30 on a Sunday • sound checks in the stage area between 12.20 and 2pm • Front of the house (full speaker) sound testing from 2pm to 3pm • Audience admitted at 3pm, concert from 5.30 to 6.30 • Managers to ensure that concerts end on time

  16. 10 Cell Phone Coverage • Cell phone reception is still poor. • Permissions from the various authorities to approve a Vodacom cell phone mast on top of the Kirstenbosch research building is bogged down in bureaucracy and there has been little progress since last year despite this being raised again recently with Kirstenbosch management • MTN mast construction on private Bishops Court property similarly bogged down

  17. 11 Protea Village Land Claim • Body corporate has been set up - officially called “Communal Property Association” (CPA) • Jenna Bass is FRA liaison person and will remain in contact with Nicky Sassman

  18. 12 Fernwood Parliamentary Sportsgrounds • Possible development • National Dept of Public Works comment: “Busy drafting a Conservation Management Survey and Plan” • FRA Task Team formed

  19. 13 FRA Committee • Nominations received for re-election: Chairperson - John Burdes Deputy Chairperson - Peter Baldwin Treasurer - Laura Bergh Scribe - ?? • Other nominations received to MANCOM: Prof Jonny Myers, John Turest-Swartz, Bradley Bergh, Moir Scholtz, Jacky De Lange, Jenna Bass
