What is color blindness? • The lack of ability to tell chromatic colors from each other • When there is a mutation in the green or red cone cells • Mostly genetic • Sometimes caused by aging, disease, or side effect from medicine
Basic Facts • One in ten men are effected by color blindness • Disease effects 7% of male population and 4% of female population • Color blindness can make it harder to learn and read
Basic Facts • Males have one X chromosome • Females have two X chromosomes • Each cone cells are focused in center of retina • Cone cells sense red, green, or blue light • Rod cells are on outer membrane • Rod cells sense shades of color
Mutations • Mutations that cause color blindness: • CNGA3 • CNGB3 • GNAT2 • OPN1LW • OPN1MW • OPN1SW
