  1. EA Renovation Project – EATM – 23 July 2019 East Hall under construction - 1962 S. Evrard – EN-EA, on behalf of the Project Team

  2. Agenda • Budget • Technical and safety review on beam line shielding • Worksite news • Safety reminder • Outcome EATM

  3. Material budget update (MTP 2020-2024) • Before MTP 2020-2024: 21.767 kCHF • MTP 2020-2024: • Additional request 3,320 kCHF • Granted : 2,669 kCHF • OFEN Office Federal de l’Energie (CH) • OFEN incentives: requested 1,600 kCHF • Granted: 796 kCHF (as not yet available, not included in M budget right now) • After MTP: 24.436 kCHF • Reprofiling completed and sent to all GL’s involved. EATM

  4. Budget situation end of June’19 • Too much commitments for 2019 • Could block future orders • Adjustment in progress EATM

  5. Tech & Safety review • Explain the problem in details • Current shielding design exceeds admissible ground loads • Discuss et clarify issues • Propose possible solutions • Or at least identify a way to progress towards some solutions EATM

  6. Maximum permissible load in b.157 47m 113m (2)5.5 t/m2 (1)1 t/m2 (1)30 t/m2 Courtesy of E. Harrouch, D. Brethoux (1) From the construction drawings (2)From Raul Fernandez (SMB-SE) calculations EATM

  7. Shielding before and after LS2 Courtesy of E. Harrouch, D. Brethoux PS B.157 Max 70t/m2 Before LS2 PS B.157 Max 60t/m2 After LS2 EATM

  8. Tech&Safety review: plan • Identify critical areas • Optimize load distribution • Relocate loading areas (avoid the technical gallery) • Optimize mixed area shielding (include magnets in simulations) • Consider local reinforcement (technical gallery) • Consider load & destructive tests (assess concrete composition) • Appeal to Geotechnics company • Define acceptance procedure • Assess seismic response • Propose CERN-wide guidelines (create database) EATM

  9. Building 251 B. 251 is ready for re-installation EATM

  10. Building 157 “Lanterneaux” replaced by sky domes EATM

  11. Building 157 Primary beam line dismantling is about completed EATM

  12. Building 352 Primary beam line dismantling in B. 352 is also about completed EATM

  13. Safety reminder • Co-activities of work at height in the two coming months: • CV: Install de-stratification fans • SMB: removal of suspended scaffolding • Wear your PPE ! EATM

  14. Outcome • Material budget increased by 2.7 MCHF after MTP2020-2024 approval • 1/3 charged – 2/3 committed • Technical and safety review on beam line shielding • A plan has been defined to address and solve the issue • Worksite • Good progress • Dismantling phase nearly over • Preparation for new installation • New false floor in B.251 • New de-stratification fans in B.157 • Safety • Wear your PPE EATM

  15. Thanks for your attention ! EATM
