  1. Project 1: Realistic to Abstract Assignment 2: Lines Claudia Jacques de Moraes Cardoso-Fleck2D Design – Art 112

  2. Assignment 1: Lines • Develop visual understanding of the differences between subject matter and form. • Intentionally transform a representational design into an abstract or non-representational design. • Develop visual understanding of line characteristics.

  3. Media & Support: Paper:drawing paper with 6” x 6” field, 2” x 2” thumbnail sketches. Media:graphite pencils with different boldness, art gum eraser, pen & ink, pen. Final Sizes: • One set of twelve 2” x 2” thumbnails with design sketches. • One final design in pencil on white paper with 6” x 6” field and neatly drawn borders. • One final design in pen on white paper with 6” x 6” field and neatly drawn borders.

  4. Development: • Select the best thumbnail developed in Project I | Assignment 1: Realistic to Abstract as the starting point for your line design . • The realistic subject matter should no longer be recognizable but the lines should have the same intention of the original composition. Chosen Thumbnail Abstraction

  5. Development • On another set of twelve 2” x 2” thumbnails develop the design of your abstraction using different media: • Graphite pencil with different boldness • Crow quill pen or thin marker Line Design Based on Abstraction

  6. Final • Choose the most successful thumbnail sketch and create a final design on 6” x 6” field with neatly drawn borders using just pencil. • Repeat the design you chose using crow quill pen or marker. Line Final Design 6” x 6” Pencil Line Final Design 6” x 6” Pen
