NHS BORDERSReview of Nursing in the Community WHERE ARE WE NOW? Lead Nurse Event 29th January 2009
WHY THE PAUSE? • Issues of trust – new Director of Nursing & Midwifery • Persistent resistance from Staff & Staffside • Opportunity to reflect and to look forward • Listen to the concerns raised by staff
DURING THE PAUSE • Meetings were paused • Workshops took place within each locality led by Staffside • The Project Manager successfully applied for another post
LESSONS LEARNED • Sometimes a rest is as good as a change! • Opportunity to listen to staff via the workshops • Provided time for personal and team reflection
WHAT WE HAVE ACHIEVED • Adopted a Team approach and not focused solely on the Community Health Nurse • Locality implementation groups with public involvement • Staff adopting new roles to meet the needs of the community
WHAT’S NEXT? • First cohort of staff will undertake Transitional and ongoing education in February • Roll out of training and development at locality level to whole team • Positive development of Community Nursing Teams
