Using basic verbs in “simple” and “complex” sentences. Mme Dusenske. Here are some basic sentences. They all start with the subject “I”. Je danse! I dance! I am dancing!. Notice that TWO English words are translated by ONE French word!. Another example:. Bonjour!. Je parle français.

  2. Here are some basic sentences. They all start with the subject “I” . Je danse! I dance! I am dancing! Notice that TWO English words are translated by ONE French word!

  3. Another example: Bonjour! Je parle français. I speak French. I am speaking French. Notice that TWO English words are translated by ONE French word!

  4. Here's what they all mean:

  5. Hola. Bonjour. Hi there. Match the sentences to the picture. Il mange un hamburger. Il étudie. Il nage. Elle téléphone. Il parle anglais. Il parle français. Il parle espagnol. Elle travaille. Il voyage. Il joue aux jeux vidéo. Il écoute ses CD. Elle regarde la télé.

  7. For these verbs, if "TU" is the subject, add an "s" to the verb!

  8. What's an infinitive? • A verb. • It usually ends in the letter R! • It translates as “TO ____”

  10. Here are some other verbs: Je veux / Tu veux / Il veut = I want, You want, He wants. Je peux / Tu peux / Il peut = I can, You can, He can… J’aime / Tu aimes / Il aime = I like, you like, he likes Je dois / Tu dois / Il doit = I should/must, You should/must, He should/must

  11. These are often used with a 2nd verb…. like this… Je veux danser. = I want to dance. Tu peux nager. = You can swim. Il aime travailler. = He likes to work. Je dois étudier. = I have to study. Notice the SECOND verb is in the INFINITIVE form!
