Science – Earth and Space Science • Identify the materials found on the • surface of the other planets in space. • Provide soils surface (that “match” planets) • for the students “drive” • their rover over the different soils and • modify. Determine which style of vehicle • is best for specific planets. Math: Develop bar and picture graphs using data from the solar system. Ask the students to interpret the graphs and report on their findings. Measure distance to each planet and determine how to scale it down and then determine if the algorithm is correct. Engineering: Use the design cycle to answer the question: After building the model, how can it be modified to run on all different hard surfaces of solar System? See Technology - * Technology: Program the rover to move on the different surfaces. It may need more or less power depending on the modifications and the surface. Students will design a travel brochure on their planet. The goal is to encourage people to travel to their planet.* • LA - Literature Ties: The Planets in • the Solar System, Our Solar System, • Planets! • Write an opinion piece on the best • rover design for the planet that has • been designed. Need to defend their • opinion in the writing.
“Technology is just a tool. In terms of getting the kids working together and motivating them, the teacher is most important.” Bill Gates
