  3. Notes on Atomic Symbols If we look at an element in chemistry, there are a few things we want to be aware of. 3Cl The “3” in front represents 3 molecules. 3 separate groups of Chlorine. The “4-” in the corner means that each group of 3 has 4 extra electrons. The 2 in the lower right means that our chlorine comes in pairs. 2 atoms for each molecule. 4- 2

  4. Knowing the Symbols in the Table Your goal for the rest of the day is to become more familiar with the 1 or 2 letter combination for each element in the table. See if you can form the following things using letters in the table (and learn the element names as you go!) - Your first and last name - The town where you live - The name of your pet (if you have one) - The name of your favorite food - The name of your favorite song
