  2. MONORAIL IT IS A RAILROAD IN WHICH THE TRACK CONSISTS OF A SINGLE RAIL,TYPICALLY ELEVATED,WITH THE TRAINS SUSPENDED FROM IT OR BALANCING ON IT. MONORAILS ARE LIGHT TRANSIT PUBLIC SYSTEM, SIMILAR TO A TRAIN,CARRIAGES RUN ON A SINGLE RAIL,HENCE MONORAIL,AND ARE DRIVEN BY ELECTRIC LOCOMOTIVE.

  3. INVENTOR OF ELCTRIFIED MONORAIL • THE FIRST ELECTRIFIED MONORAIL WAS INVENTED BY RONALD J. RILEY. • RONALD J. RILEY WAS BORN ON NOVEMBER 11 IN MICHIGAN,U.S.,IN 1950. • HE IS THE PRESIDENT OF RILEY AND ASSOCIATES,INC.

MONORAILS IN INDIA • MONORAILS IN INDIA ARE GENERALLY CONSIDERED AS FEEDER SYSTEM FOR THE METRO.THE MUMBAI MONORAIL WILL BE THE FIRST MONORAIL IN INDIA. • THE THIRUVANATHAPURAM MONORAIL IS UNDER CONSTRUCTION AND WILL START OPERATING IN 2016. • MANY OTHER INDIAN CITIES HAVE MONORAIL PROJECTS, AS A FEEDER SYSTEM TO THE METRO, IN DIFFERENT PHASES OF METRO ARE:-

MONORAIL IN MUMBAI • INDIA’S FIRST PROJECT OF MONORAIL WAS STARTED IN MUMBAI. • COMPLETED ITS FIRST TEST RUN FROM WADALA TO BHAKTI PARK IN MUMBAI ON 18 FEBUARY 2012(LENGTH IS 4.3 KM). • BUILD TO PROVIDE MASS TRANSIT SYSTEM TO THE PEOPLE. • IT WAS BEING CONTRACTED BY THE MUMBAI METROPOLITAN REGION DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY(MMRDA).

ADVANTAGES OF MONORAIL • IT DOES NOT POLLUTE,UNLIKE CARS AND BUSES. • THERE IS NO RISK OF CARS,GETTING SRUCK ON CROSSINGS.IT REDUCES THE RISK FOR PEDESTRAINS. • THE SYSTEM REQUIRES LESS MAINTAINANCE THAN A ROAD OR A TRAIN TRACK. • THE MONORAIL CAN RUN WITHOUT ANY INTERFERENCE FROM OTHER TRAFFIC. • CREATING LESS NOISE AND VIBRATION.

DISADVANTAGES OF MONORAIL • NOT COMPATIBEL WITH ANY OTHER TYPE OF RAIL INFRASTRUCTURE. • IN A EMERGENCY,PASSENGERS MAY NOT BE ABLE TO IMMEDIATELY EXIT. • IF A SECTION OF TRACK NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, THE ENTIRE SYSTEM NEEDS TO BE SHUT DOWN RESULTING IN NO SERVICE RATHER THAN REDUCED SERVICE. • IT IS A COSTLY AFFAIR.

METRO RAIL • MONORAIL CAN GO IN CONGESTED SHORT STREETS. • MONORAIL CAN BE BUILT FASTER WITH LESS COST THAN METRO RAIL. • MONORAIL CAN GO AT 85KMPH SPEED. • MONORAIL TRAVELS IN SINGLE TRACK. • MONORAIL CAN CARRY 700 PEOPLE AT ATIME. • IT CONSUMES MINIMUM SPACE. • METRO RAIL CANNOT GO IN BUSY,OVERCROWDED STREETS. • METRO RAIL NEEDS MORE TIME TO BUILT IN COMPARISON TO MONORAIL AND IT IS MORE COSTLY. • METRO RAIL CAN TRAVEL AT 80KMPH SPEED. • METRO RAIL TRAVELS IN DUAL TRACKS. • METRO RAIL CAN CARRY THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE. • IT CONSUMES SPACE MORE THAN MONORAIL.
