  10. What is UniWard? • Work done by students and ourselves • Apolitical (don’t bring the Labour Party into it) • Average wards have case work – ours is done by the University so we have more time to focus on real campus issues

  11. Campus Campaigns Committees & Groups Issues on Campus Community Links Events & Festivals

  12. Introduction What is a Councillor? What is a UniWard? UniWard on Campus

  13. What was achieved last term • Regular Newsletter - providing information on what is going on & current aims • Supporting LUSU campaigns e.g. Movember • Providing extra resource – ‘Here to help’ outlining services available on campus • Supporting peoples complaints e.g. poor lighting around sports centre path, being sorted • Dietary information campaign & Communicating with shop managers • Websitewith all our relevant activities

  14. What was achieved last term • Bus signage campaign – now gone to County Council • Promoting information for the City Council and local businesses and local area • Helping police communicate typical campus crimes • Forming links with other external bodies e.g. UCSU, youth reps (Youth Council, Youth Parliament) • Creating UniWard as a central activity for campaigns and city businesses

  15. What we’re doing this term • City Events & Society link ups - Trying ways to bring more societies to City Events and the community • Olympics Stewards – Just a few weeks ago we passed this onto LUSU Involve in attempts to better utilise already existing bodies at the university who could gather people much more successfully • Pendle Anniversary – Linking up Pendle College with the City Council to help create a celebration for them to enjoy with the community • Student Involvement – to all the above and any new ideas! Like anything in life, a group can only think of a certain number of orientations and new ideas may add boundaries we hadn’t considered. We like to design things so you’re in the driving seat.

  16. What we’re doing this term • Student Champion – The local Labour Party have agreed to form a task group in the city council with young councillors and elected representatives from external bodies such as LUSU, UCSU, and other young people services. If successful we hope it to be a role that students can get elected on along with hustings in week 7. • University Crime – Going to PACT and feeding information with students, more that we can do here, but given our time restrictions we haven’t done this yet. A reason why we want people to get involved in any area they are interested in, as it allows us to allocate more time to areas where we can’t currently and the whole UniWard system is designed for your involvement.

  17. What we’re doing this term • The University Ward – the size, issues, generally a minor thing and something that we don’t let restrict us working with any one who wishes to get involved but given the issues and the work we put in we think it is only logical to make the university the full ward. Not political as we have no intentions of standing we said last May students should be represented by students, and this should only continue. • Minimizing campus issues – Last month we reported the fire alarm issue along the Pendle-Grizedale stretch which occasionally affects LUSU’s Central. It went off too often last term and in the past week it’s been off 4 times – which is a fire hazard giving people’s attention and reaction towards them will decrease. The issue has now being solved with a matter of urgency. Next week or there about we’ll be challenging some accessibility areas on campus.

  18. Your Ideas • We’re always wanting to hear from you on areas that UniWard should focus on • Whether you’ve got a campaign, idea, frustration or an out of the blue initiate we’d be delighted to hear and see how UniWard can fight for it • Talk to us hear today, email us, find contact information on our website: uniward.co.uk
