Road to War - 1939 • Germany wanted to expand their boarders (Lebensraum) • German troops invaded the Rhineland (France) (1936) • Wanted to annex Austria into German control (1938) • Hitler demanded Czechoslovakia hand over the Sudetenland (1938) • Demanded the rest of Czechoslovakia (1939)
Road to War - 1939 • Europe did not want to get into another war so quickly • British Prime Minister, Neville Chamberlain, believed that Hitler did not want to go to war • Chamberlain told the world that he had helped to create “Peace in our time.”
Road to War - 1939 • While Germany was expanding/taking over, France & England threatened Hitler with war if he did not back off • WWI had drained France & England of military resources, and they were not able to back up what they were saying
