  3. Virtual Machine • = ‘A computer’ • Includes an operating system • All programs that are needed are installed. No installation or configuration needed. No platform dependent problems. (GENESIS) ARMS - data publication tool (GENESIS) Metadata editor (CC-QUALITY) Virtual Machine

  4. System requirements • System requirements: • 2.8GB RAM • storage: • GeoServer data: around 3GB, for one service for one year (one region, one pollutant, three forecast days) • PostGIS data (hourly time series): around 180MB for one service for one year

  5. Installation • Two options (installation manual has been written): • VMware player • Free • Linux + Windows • Easier • VMware ESXi • Free • No underlying operating system required • More work • More operational, dedicated machine

  6. VMware player • Install VMware player (http://www.vmware.com/products/player/) • Double-click on the .vmx file

  7. ESXi • Check your hardware (64- bit) • Create an account (http://www.vmware.com) • Download ESXi free • Burn a CD (ISO image) • Boot from ESXi CD + configuration • Install vSphere client • Install the PASODOBLE virtual machine

  8. Network configuration • Security concerns: In a computer network, the hosts most vulnerable to attack are those that provide services to users outside of their local network • These servers should be separate from the internal network of the service provider. Typical deployment:

  9. Network configuration • Our server: • accepts WMS requests: onlyrequests of HTTP (port 80) are needed • accepts FTP data from (an) internal computer(s) • sendsmeta data data to AEAT using FTP
