  2. Introduction • This will give you the basic information on how to use the Synergistic Podium

  3. Light Switches and Screen • You will find the switches which control the lights and the screen behind the Podium • The far left will control the screen. Down brings it down and up takes it back. Please return the screen to the up position when you are finished with you talk.

Podium Lock • The Podium should be locked at all times when not being used for a talk • Please make sure either you or your speaker locks the podium when done as there is several pieces of equpiment that the Department will be responsible for. • For reasons of security the lock combination is not in this training. Please contact a Staff Assistant for the combination

  7. The Podium TOP • The top controls of the Podium are for external hook-ups. Like Laptops, and Video Cameras. • There is an RGB, and an RCA hookup. • There is a Mac Mini in the podium • There is DHCP and Wireless Networking • There is power.

  9. Inside the Podium • There are several things inside the podium • Controls for the various inputs. • Remote Controls • DVD/VCR • Mac Mini • Cables

  19. Setup for Laptop • Turn the Projector on and wait for the light to stop blinking • Plug your Laptop into the 15 pin VGA port on the podium. Make sure your laptop is OFF. And not hibernating. This is to insure things working • On the Projector Remote push the Comp Button • On the AV Switch board Push button #2 on Computer section (top section) • Make sure the audio selector is pushed to the left and is set to Comp. • The Projector should be on and Displaying to the Screen • Now Turn on your Laptop. Setup for DVD/VCR Combo • Turn the Projector on and wait for the light to stop blinking • On the Projector Remote push the Video Button • On the AV Switch board Push button #1 on Computer section (top section) • Make sure the audio selector is pushed to the Right • The Projector should be on and Displaying to the Screen

Setup for RCA input on Podium • Turn the Projector on and wait for the light to stop blinking • On the Projector Remote push the Video Button • On the AV Switch board Push button #2 on Computer section (top section) • Make sure the audio selector is pushed to the Right • The Projector should be on and Displaying to the Screen

  30. Mathnet Podium Mac Mini • Fall 2006 a Mathnet Mac Mini was added to the Synergistic Room Podium. • To use the Mac Mini Requires a Mathnet Account. Information about Mathnet accounts is found at http://www.math.psu.edu/mathnet/mdoc/md9/ • Please be sure to request a Mathnet account in Plenty of time before the talk if access to the Mac is needed. • MS Office Mac and Adobe Acrobat Reader are on the machine. If specialized software will be required please send an email to help@math.psu.edu

Networking In the Synergistic Room • There is no wired access • Wireless is available but the make sure you install the Cisco VPN Software from http://downloads.its.psu.edu and follow the instructions at http://www.math.psu.edu/mathnet/mdoc/md15/wireless.html • A Mathnet username and password is required for access to the Mathnet Networking via Wireless or Wired DHCP or for Accessing the Mac. • You may be able to get a wireless signal also from the HUB across the way. This will require the same software but a CAC username and password.

Suggestions • Be sure to Schedule the Room through the Math Department Receptionist. • You may see the rooms availability at: https://webmail.math.psu.edu/roomSchedule/ • Speaker should arrive 30-45 minutes early • Test and make sure that all equipment works, all cables are available for equipment prior to talk • If using a laptop be sure it is powered off and NOT is hybernation mode, hook everything up first. Turn the Projector on first and THEN the laptop
