Why Do We Need Sustainable Fashion According to research, the fashion industry is one of the biggest polluters as our current fashion industry has an unethical, wasteful, and inconsiderate approach towards social justice, equality, animal welfare, and ecological integrity. Therefore, the clothing and accessories that are ethically made and environmentally friendly are called sustainable fashion. For example, Sustainable Fashion brands producing men's 100% cotton shirts which are purely fair-trade and green fashion. According to the UN Report of the World Commission on Environment and Development, sustainable development is “meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.” In a nutshell, Sustainable Fashion is only considered when the clothing is produced from environment-friendly materials, where natural resources are used and no one is hurt in the whole production process. For producing sustainable clothing and accessories, the industries need to shift totally towards sustainable production in which large investments are required for manufacturing facilities, raw materials, and manpower. It requires extensive innovation and smart technologies of fashion. As industries don’t gain many profits and incur huge costs in shifting to sustainable production, the brands and companies are resistant to do it. But there’s a solution to make this happen and make them switch to sustainable production and that is “Consumers”. If the consumers start only buying ethically, it will force them to either change the practices or lose business. For this, consumers need to know and be aware that sustainable fashion is important.

Whereas sustainable clothing produces less textile wastage as it is produced using long-lasting and eco-friendly materials where consumers don’t need to buy clothes more frequently. 2.Fewer Animals are Harmed: Leather bags, boots, and items produced from fur, leather, feathers, and wool require harm on the animals. Many endangered species also suffer and are hunted for clothing. If there will be ethical production of fashion then the animals will be less harmed. In ethical production, human-made fibers, recycled materials, bamboo, and more such types of materials are used. 3.Fair Wages and Better Working Conditions: Fast Fashion brands do cost-cutting and being popular in the market, make harsh working conditions for the clothing workers, and make those workers pay far below the living wage. Also, these brands exploit the environment of the workers by poor safety and health conditions, long working hours, and the constant pressure to produce. Whereas sustainable and ethical fashion brands make sure that the clothing is produced under safe and fair working conditions.

On the other hand, Sustainable Fashion brands are renowned classic, timeless, and high-quality pieces which allow being creative, expressive, and distinctive personal style for the consumer. These brands design the clothing in a way that truly reflects the consumer’s style. 5.Less Wastage of Water: The fashion industry requires a huge amount of water due to the dyeing and finishing processes for almost all garments and also pollutes freshwater due to the toxic chemicals from the production process. Therefore, Sustainable Fashion brands operate with a water budget to limit their wastage of water during production. They use natural, recyclable and renewable materials which either require little or no water during the whole production process.
