  1. Peptic Ulcer Disease Symptoms And Details Of Peptic Ulcer Disease Peptic ulcers - also referred to as peptic ulcer disease - is a relatively common condition affecting approximately ten percent of all individuals within the United States. While these diseases were once to primarily be caused by the consumption of spicy food or stress, researchers and medical experts have now determined that the most common cause of peptic ulcers is a bacterium called Helicobacter pylori or H. pylori. While these symptoms will sometimes heal without any treatment, they have the capability of causing serious complications and an individual who suspects they may have ulcers should always obtain a medical evaluation for a proper diagnosis. The Different Types of Peptic Ulcers There are three types of peptic ulcers that can be diagnosed based on their location. A peptic ulcer that develops in the stomach is called a gastric ulcer. A duodenal ulcer is a peptic ulcer that develops in the duodenum or beginning of the small intestine. When an ulcer develops in the esophagus this is called an esophageal ulcer and is typically located in the area of the esophagus. The most common symptom associated with all types of peptic ulcers is a burning pain due to stomach acid that comes into contact with the ulcer and may be felt from the area of the naval up to the chest or breastbone. This pain may only last for several minutes or can occur for several hours and sometimes worsens when the stomach is empty. The pain can often be relieved

  2. temporarily by consuming certain foods that may buffer the acids in the stomach or when taking over-the-counter antacids that reduce the level of stomach acid. Often the symptom of pain from peptic ulcers will become worse at night. Sometimes the pain will go away for several days or weeks before returning. In severe cases, ulcers can cause nausea or vomiting and bleeding that will appear in stools or vomit. Changes in appetite or the loss of weight that is unexplained can also be a symptom of peptic ulcers. Symptoms And Details Of Peptic Ulcer Disease Stress is the body's most acquainted friend in today's hectic, fast-paced world. For the last fifty or so years, the workplace has become the greatest cause of our favourite condition, and more and more people are complaining of stress and stress-related illness. One of these illnesses is peptic ulcer. To show how common peptic ulcers have become, a 1978 issue of the Spiderman comic portrayed Spiderman developing a peptic ulcer! While peptic ulcer is a common phenomenon these days, the treatments and cures are not. Far too many people believe a peptic ulcer can be eliminated easily when that can not always be the case. The antacid tablet is by far the most common thing that people will go for when they feel the symptoms of a peptic ulcer. It is true, they do help reduce the inflammation that causes a lot of the discomfort, but they will not touch the ulcer itself. Peptic ulcer disease will only get worse with the over reliance of antacids. The antacid only deals with the symptoms of a peptic ulcer, and not the ulcer itself. Probably the best course of action to take would be to have a doctor prescribe an antibiotic or other such prescription drug that could help eliminate the peptic ulcer disease. This offers a more permanent solution than simply using over the counter (OTC) antacids exclusively. Lifestyle changes are always recommended to help reduce the chances of peptic ulcer disease from recurring. Stopping smoking, eliminating fatty foods or fried foods and cutting down on caffeine intake are all highly advised. These three things are all massive contributors to getting peptic ulcer disease.
