  5. Bible Survey - Isaiah

  6. Bible Survey - Isaiah Theme Salvation in YHWH Isaiah’s name means, “YHWH is salvation.” This statement is a good summary of this book. The word “salvation” is used 26 times in this book but only 7 times in all of the other prophets combined. The key here is to understand that this salvation comes about only through the grace of God, not through the goodness of humanity.

  7. Bible Survey - Isaiah Purpose of Writing The purpose of Isaiah’s writing is largely the same as the purpose of the writing of every other prophet: to recall God’s people from sin and to point out to them the path of righteousness in relationship with God.

  8. Bible Survey – Isaiah Christ in Isaiah Christ is seen clearly through Isaiah’s messianic prophecies.

  9. Bible Survey - Isaiah Christ in Isaiah Isaiah 7:14 Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, a virgin will be with child and bear a son, and she will call His name Immanuel. Matthew 1:21 “She will bear a Son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins."

  10. Bible Survey - Isaiah Christ in Isaiah Luke 3:21-22 Jesus was also baptized, and while He was praying, heaven was opened, 22 and the Holy Spirit descended upon Him in bodily form like a dove, and a voice came out of heaven, "You are My beloved Son, in You I am well-pleased." Isaiah 11:2 The Spirit of the LORD will rest on Him, The spirit of wisdom and understanding, The spirit of counsel and strength, The spirit of knowledge and the fear of the LORD.

  11. Bible Survey - Isaiah Christ in Isaiah Isaiah 40:3 A voice is calling, “Clear the way for the LORD in the wilderness; Make smooth in the desert a highway for our God.” Matthew 3:1-2 Now in those days John the Baptist came, preaching in the wilderness of Judea, saying, 2 "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand."

  12. Bible Survey - Isaiah Christ in Isaiah Isaiah 61:1-2 The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me, Because the LORD has anointed me To bring good news to the afflicted; He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to captives And freedom to prisoners; 2 To proclaim the favorable year of the LORD. Luke 4:17-21 And the book of the prophet Isaiah was handed to Him. And He opened the book and found the place where it was written, 18 "THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD IS UPON ME, BECAUSE HE ANOINTED ME TO PREACH THE GOSPEL TO THE POOR.… 20 And He closed the book, gave it back to the attendant and sat down; and the eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on Him. 21 And He began to say to them, "Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing."

  13. Bible Survey - Isaiah Christ in Isaiah Isaiah 53:5 But He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; The chastening for our well-being fell upon Him, And by His scourging we are healed.

  14. Bible Survey - Isaiah Place in the Canon Isaiah has been called an “index” of the Scriptures. This refers to the fact that the book contains within itself the same structure as the rest of the bible: Its first 39 chapters deal with sin and judgment while its final 27 chapters deal with the salvation that is God’s response to our sin. Isaiah is quoted or alluded to well over 100 times in the New Testament.
