  10. READY - SET – GO ! • Steps to earning your GED...

  11. READY: • Locator test - Determines level of TABE testing you need, or if you can skip TABE testing all together and go straight to the Official Practice Tests (OPT). • TABE test / Diagnostic – Pinpoints students’ strengths and weaknesses in areas of Reading, Math and Language.

  12. SET: • Once you have completed your TABE tests, you will meet with one of our ACADEMIC ADVISORS to determine your study path.

  13. SET: (continued) • If your TABE scores are above a 9.0 level, you can proceed with Pre-GED testing. You will need to pass all 5 Pre-GED tests with a score of 450 or higher in each area before you are eligible to be registered to take the OFFICIAL GED TEST • If your TABE scores are below a 9.0 level, you will need to work with your academic advisor and discuss which of the four study path would best suit your needs.

  14. STUDY PATHS 1. Group Classes are offered in Newport and Dayton– all classes are 6 weeks in length. • Math 1 - Fractions, Decimals, Percents, Signed Numbers, Ratio & Proportions. • Math 2 – Estimation, Data Analysis, Measurement, Geometry, Algebra • Compass, SAT or ASVAB preparation.

  15. STUDY PATHS (continued) 2. Open Lab – independent work in our GED lab with one-on-one help from a staff member.

  16. GED Information The GED Tests are designed to measure learning generally acquired in a high school course of study. Scores are determined by administering the test to graduating seniors. The content is drawn from content taught in high school.

  18. GED Information What is a passing score? An average of 450 points for a total of 2,250 points for all five subtests Where can I take the test? The Official GED test is given at our Newport Location What does it cost? The cost is $40.00 until July 2009, then the price goes up to $65.00.

  19. What if I don’t pass? You only have to retake the sections in which you need to work. It is $10.00 for each section you retake. You may retake a test up to 3 times a year. Retake price will be increasing to $25.00 per test as of 7/1/09 But you will pass because you must pass an official practice test before you are allowed to take the actual test.

  20. What good is the GED? Accepted by 95 percent of U.S colleges and universities Can make graduates eligible for federal financial aid Often required by employers

  21. What good is the GED? GED credential recipients are likely to make $115 more weekly than the adults without a high school education, keeping other variables constant. With other variables controlled, GED credential recipients have $3500 more in annual personal income than adults with less than a high school education.
