  1. Qualifying Tuition Centre Marketing Claims-RGChannel There are so many English tuition centres, Science tuition centre and other types of tuition centres in Singapore therefore it has become very competitive. As a result, many centres start very aggressive marketing campaigns; it is a natural progression of the industry. There is nothing wrong with marketing centres, but many centre’s claims are honest and accurate. However, there is always a small group of bad sheep that make other centres look bad. I remember reading about tuition centres that fake the qualifications of their teachers. In this blog, let us look at some of the claims made by tuition centres.

  2. Results Guaranteed You may have seen some centres promise a ‘Results Guaranteed’ claim. If the student doesn’t achieve a certain grade, money will be returned. Is this true? I would say that it is possible for a centre to fulfil this promise. However, they always include a lot of terms and conditions. They include clauses like 100% attendance, all homework to be completed and so on. If you think about it, if the student puts in all the hard work by following the above terms, he would improve. Thus, this is a marketing gimmick. Learning Methodology

  3. It is good to have a learning methodology – they do work. However, some of them sound so complicated and there is so much jargon that laypeople who are not education professionals get lost. Thus, the more complicated the methodology, the more smoke and mirrors there probably are. Do look out for centres that have overly complex learning methodology. Current MOE Teachers

  4. Some centres claim that they only employ current MOE teachers. This is a grey area because MOE does not allow full-time teachers to teach in tuition centres. These centres could be referring to part- time teachers or teachers who do relief teaching. Though without talking to the teachers themselves, you may not realise it. If you really want to be sure that they are current MOE teachers and not a part-timer, you need to check with the teachers personally.

  5. Awards or Certificates You may notice that some centres display some sort of award or certificate by some parenting magazine. Because of this award, you may be led to believe that this is a sign of certification of standard or excellence. The truth behind these awards is that it is a marketing gimmick. These centres pay a sum of money to these magazines to get the award. In short, finding a good Primary English tuition centre or a Maths tuition centre is already difficult. Let’s look out for some of these marketing gimmicks to be sure the centre you have selected can do a good job of helping your child.
