What is the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme? • Academic program focused on Intercultural Awareness, Communication, and Holistic Learning. • Promotes success in all students. • Accelerated Learning-students work one to two grade levels ahead of peers. • All courses taught through the AREAS OF INTERACTION.

  4. AREAS OF INTERACTION

What are the Areas of Interaction? • APPROACHES TO LEARNING- study and organizational skills • COMMUNITY and SERVICE-learning by helping others in the community • HEALTH and SOCIAL EDUCATION-being mentally, physically and emotionally aware • ENVIRONMENT- learning about the interdependence of humans and the environment • HUMAN INGENUITY- learning and experiencing the creative genius of mankind

AREAS OF INTERACTION • All content area curriculum is taught through the Areas of Interaction. • The Areas of Interaction instills global thinking and awareness. • The Areas of Interaction promote “Best Practices” teaching: lots of hands on, critical thinking and problem solving activities. • Every subject can incorporate the Areas of Interaction.

  7. IB Magnet Compact • Demonstrates parental and student knowledge of the program. • Must be signed by parent and student and turned in at the start of 2008-2009 school year. • Demonstrates awareness of continuation requirements.

  8. Continuation Requirements • Successfully pass Foreign Language (French or Spanish) • Complete service hours -SIXTH GRADE: 20 hours -SEVENTH GRADE: 25 hours -EIGHTH GRADE: 30 hours Failure to meet Continuation Requirements will result in removal of the program for next school year. Removal from IB program results in reassignment to home schools.
