  1. ClusterWednesday, March 20, 2013Cycle III—Reading vs The Common Core

  2. What would PHHS be without an Advisory competition??? • The great PHHS Adopt-a-Board Program • Pick a board, preferably one that is in disrepair. (um…building F has many ) • Hang your PHHS Official Adopt-a-Board sign on the board you claim • Decorate it and maintain it. • 1st place—pizza party • 2nd and 3rd places--TBD

  3. Take a moment to think about… • Why do you assign projects for your students to complete? What is the purpose of a project? (or if you don’t assign projects, why do you think a teacher would do this?) • Describe what a fully implemented Common Core classroom looks like.

  4. Review of cluster goal • By the end of Cycle III, students will increase their contextual vocabulary and informational text comprehension by applying and citing information gained through reading to at least one project-based assignment.

  5. Expectations of Common Core • Discussion about personal expectations or concerns regarding implementation of CCSS • Discussion about Project-based learning • Discussion about integration of content and/or disciplines

  6. Take-away: • Collaborate with another teacher (or two or three) of a different content area in order to identify a project that could be integrated into both courses between now and the end of the year. (for example, the two Freshmen English teachers could collaborate with the two Algebra teachers to design an integrated project.) (for example, the Biology teacher could collaborate with the PE teacher to create an integrated project) (for example, the International Language teachers could collaborate with the Social Studies teachers to design an integrated project) • Brainstorm activity topics/ideas and outline a rough timeline of the planning and implementation of the project. Submit this to Mary before leaving cluster. 
