  1. 3 Big Ideas:

  2. Big Idea 1: The God of the Universe, in all his power and in all his character, has come to live within, and be intimately linked with, the deepest, truest part of every Christian.

  3. Big Idea 1: The God of the Universe, in all his power and in all his character, has come to live within, and be intimately linked with, the deepest, truest part of every Christian. Of this church I was made a minister according to the stewardship from God bestowed on me for your benefit, so that I might fully carry out the preaching of the word of God, that is, the mystery which has been hidden from the past ages and generations, but has now been manifested to His saints, to whom God willed to make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles, which isChrist in you, the hope of glory.Colossians 1:25-27

  4. Big Idea 2: The deepest, truest part of who we (Christians) are is not what it used to be. What and who we were has died and has been replaced by something new.

  5. Big Idea 2: The deepest, truest part of who we (Christians) are is not what it used to be. What and who we were has died and has been replaced by something new. Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.Colossians 3:1-4

  6. Big Idea 2: The deepest, truest part of who we (Christians) are is not what it used to be. What and who we were has died and has been replaced by something new. See how great a love the Father has bestowed upon us, that we should be called children of God; and such we are. For this reason the world does not know us, because it did not know Him. Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not appeared as yet what we shall be. We know that when He appears, weshall be like Him, because we shall see Him just as He is. And everyone who has this hope fixed on Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.1 John 3:1-3

  7. Big Idea 3: God is constantly pursuing his work and life in and through us, seeking to pour out that life into the world around us in power and grace.

  8. Big Idea 3: God is constantly pursuing his work and life in and through us, seeking to pour out that life into the world around us in power and grace. And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. Romans 8:28-29

  9. Romans 8:28-29 And we proclaim Him, admonishing every man and teaching every man with all wisdom, so that we may present every man complete in Christ. For this purpose also I labor, striving according to His power, which mightily works within me.Colossians 1:28-29

For this purpose also I labor, striving according to His power, which mightily works within me.Colossians 1:28-29 For it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure.Philippians 2:13

  11. Dilemma:

  12. Dilemma: Why, then, do we so often withhold this power and this life from those around us?

  13. Dilemma: Why, then, do we so often withhold this power and this life from those around us? Why do we seem so unaware of what God is doing within the deepest, truest part of ourselves?

  14. John 5:16-30 16So, because Jesus was doing these things on the Sabbath, the Jews persecuted him. 17Jesus said to them, “My Father is always at his work to this very day, and I, too, am working.” 18For this reason the Jews tried all the harder to kill him; not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God his own Father, making himself equal with God. 19Jesus gave them this answer: “I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does. 20For the Father loves the Son and shows him all he does. Yes, to your amazement he will show him even greater things than these. 21For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son gives life to whom he is pleased to give it. 22Moreover, the Father judges no one, but has entrusted all judgment to the Son, 23that all may honor the Son just as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father, who sent him. 24“I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life. 25I tell you the truth, a time is coming and has now come when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God and those who hear will live. 26For as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son to have life in himself. 27And he has given him authority to judge because he is the Son of Man. 28“Do not be amazed at this, for a time is coming when all who are in their graves will hear his voice 29and come out—those who have done good will rise to live, and those who have done evil will rise to be condemned. 30By myself I can do nothing; I judge only as I hear, and my judgment is just, for I seek not to please myself but him who sent me.” John 5:16-30

  21. John 5:16-30 16So, because Jesus was doing these things on the Sabbath, the Jews persecuted him. 16Jesus said to them, “My Father is always at his work to this very day, and I, too, am working.”18For this reason the Jews tried all the harder to kill him;not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God his own Father, making himself equal with God. 19Jesus gave them this answer: “I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does. 20For the Father loves the Son and shows him all he does. 22. Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. 23. 30By myself I can do nothing; I judge only as I hear, and my judgment is just, for I seek not to please myself but him who sent me.”

  31. The Lord GOD has given Me the tongue of disciples,That I may know how to sustain the weary one with a word.He awakens Me morning by morning,He awakens My ear to listen as a disciple. The Lord GOD has opened My ear;And I was not disobedient,Nor did I turn back. . . . Who is among you that fears the LORD,That obeys the voice of His servant,That walks in darkness and has no light?Let him trust in the name of the LORD and rely on his God. Isaiah 50:1-11 Isaiah 50:4-5,11 Thus says the LORD,“Where is the certificate of divorceBy which I have sent your mother away?Or to whom of My creditors did I sell you?Behold, you were sold for your iniquities,And for your transgressions your mother was sent away. Why was there no man when I came? When I called, why was there none to answer? Is My hand so short that it cannot ransom?Or have I no power to deliver?Behold, I dry up the sea with My rebuke,I make the rivers a wilderness;Their fish stink for lack of waterAnd die of thirst. I clothe the heavens with blacknessAnd make sackcloth their covering.” The Lord GOD has given Me the tongue of disciples,That I may know how to sustain the weary one with a word.He awakens Me morning by morning,He awakens My ear to listen as a disciple. The Lord GOD has opened My ear;And I was not disobedientNor did I turn back. I gave My back to those who strike Me,And My cheeks to those who pluck out the beard;I did not cover My face from humiliation and spitting. For the Lord GOD helps Me,Therefore, I am not disgraced; Therefore, I have set My face like flint,And I know that I will not be ashamed. He who vindicates Me is near;Who will contend with Me?Let us stand up to each other;Who has a case against Me?Let him draw near to Me. Behold, the Lord GOD helps Me;Who is he who condemns Me?Behold, they will all wear out like a garment; The moth will eat them. Who is among you that fears the LORD,That obeys the voice of His servant,That walks in darkness and has no light?Let him trust in the name of the LORD and rely on his God. Behold, all you who kindle a fire,Who encircle yourselves with firebrands,Walk in the light of your fireAnd among the brands you have set ablaze. This you will have from My hand:You will lie down in torment.

  33. Dilemma:

  34. Dilemma: Why, then, do we so often withhold this power and this life from those around us? Why do we seem so unaware of what God is doing within the deepest, truest part of ourselves?

  35. “Now therefore, I pray You, if I have found favor in Your sight, let me know Your ways that I may know You, so that I may find favor in Your sight. Consider too, that this nation is Your people.” And He said, “My presence shall go with you, and I will give you rest.” Then he said to Him, “If Your presence does not go with us, do not lead us up from here. “For how then can it be known that I have found favor in Your sight, I and Your people? Is it not by Your going with us, so that we, I and Your people, may be distinguished from all the other people who are upon the face of the earth?” The LORD said to Moses, “I will also do this thing of which you have spoken; for you have found favor in My sight and I have known you by name.” John 5:16-30 So, because Jesus was doing these things on the Sabbath, the Jews persecuted him.
