  1. Habitudes Randy Olsson Monday, March 31 2008

  2. Lesson #2 • Keep on Fighting!!! • When your wounded… • When it costs… • Keep on Fighting!

  3. Keep Fighting! • Luke 14:28-33 “Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Will he not first sit down and estimate the cost to see if he has enough money to complete it? For if he lays the foundation and is not able to finish it, everyone who sees it will ridicule him, saying, 'This fellow began to build and was not able to finish.' “Or suppose a king is about to go to war against another king. Will he not first sit down and consider whether he is able with ten thousand men to oppose the one coming against him with twenty thousand? If he is not able, he will send a delegation while the other is still a long way off and will ask for terms of peace. In the same way, any of you who does not give up everything he has cannot be my disciple.”

  4. Keep Fighting! • Through Difficulty… • Jesus the Christ • His betrayal… • His mandate… • His opposition…

  5. Keep Fighting! • The desire of the nations • Abraham, Moses (The snake, the rock, the bread, the Levitical system), Samson, David, Isaiah, and more.

  6. Christ • John 1:11He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him.

  7. Isaiah 53 • 1 Who has believed our message and to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed? He grew up before him like a tender shoot, and like a root out of dry ground. He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nothing in his appearance that we should desire him. 3 He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering. Like one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not.  4 Surely he took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows, yet we considered him stricken by God, smitten by him, and afflicted. 5 But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed.

  8. Christ's Difficulties • Rejection • Persecution • Ungrateful People • Accusation • Unbelief • Mockery

  9. Christ’s Attitude • 3But those sacrifices are an annual reminder of sins, 4because it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.  5Therefore, when Christ came into the world, he said: "Sacrifice and offering you did not desire, but a body you prepared for me; 6with burnt offerings and sin offerings you were not pleased. 7Then I said, 'Here I am—it is written about me in the scroll— I have come to do your will, O God.' “ - Hebrews 10: 3-7 / Psalm 40:6-8

  10. Keep Fighting! • Hebrews 12:2-3  Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

  11. The Joy Before Us. • God will be pleased - • God will be glorified - • God will be honored - • We get a reward in heaven – • Opportunities on Earth - • Satisfaction -

  12. Keep Fighting! • Thorn in flesh •  2 Corinthians 12:7-10 To keep me from becoming conceited because of these surpassingly great revelations, there was given me a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

  13. Keep Fighting! • Paul in Jail • Acts 16:24 About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them.

  14. Keep Fighting! • Don’t be a deserter! • Philippians 4:3Yes, and I ask you, loyal yokefellow, help these women who have contended at my side in the cause of the gospel, along with Clement and the rest of my fellow workers, whose names are in the book of life.

  15. Keep Fighting! • My people come to you, as they usually do, and sit before you to listen to your words, but they do not put them into practice. With their mouths they express devotion, but their hearts are greedy for unjust gain. Indeed, to them you are nothing more than one who sings love songs with a beautiful voice and plays an instrument well, for they hear your words but do not put them into practice.” - Ezekiel 33:31-32

  16. Keep Fighting! • 2 Timothy 4:9-11 Do your best to come to me quickly, for Demas, because he loved this world, has deserted me and has gone to Thessalonica. Crescens has gone to Galatia, and Titus to Dalmatia. Only Luke is with me. Get Mark and bring him with you, because he is helpful to me in my ministry.

  17. Keep Fighting! • Acts 15:38-40  • “but Paul did not think it wise to take him, because he had deserted them in Pamphylia and had not continued with them in the work. They had such a sharp disagreement that they parted company. Barnabas took Mark and sailed for Cyprus, but Paul chose Silas and left, commended by the brothers to the grace of the Lord.

  18. Keep Fighting! • Paul forsaken! • 2 Timothy 4:16-18 • At my first defense, no one came to my support, but everyone deserted me. May it not be held against them. But the Lord stood at my side and gave me strength, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it. And I was delivered from the lion's mouth. The Lord will rescue me from every evil attack and will bring me safely to his heavenly kingdom. To him be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

  19. Keep Fighting! • 2 Timothy 4:7I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.

  20. Keep Fighting! • John 5:36"I have testimony weightier than that of John. For the very work that the Father has given me to finish, and which I am doing, testifies that the Father has sent me.

  21. Keep Fighting! • 2 Corinthians 8:10-12 • And here is my advice about what is best for you in this matter: Last year you were the first not only to give but also to have the desire to do so. Now finish the work, so that your eager willingness to do it may be matched by your completion of it, according to your means. For if the willingness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what one has, not according to what he does not have.

  22. Keep Fighting! • Colossians 4:16 Tell Archippus: "See to it that you complete the work you have received in the Lord."

  23. Be faithful! • Faithful to the end… • Faithful to death… • Strong under pressure…

  24. Be faithful! • Proverbs 20:6Many a man claims to have unfailing love, but a faithful man who can find?

  25. Be faithful! • Jeremiah 12:5"If you have raced with men on foot and they have worn you out, how can you compete with horses? If you stumble in safe country, how will you manage in the thickets by the Jordan?”

  26. Be faithful! • Proverbs 24:10If you falter in times of trouble, how small is your strength!

  27. Be faithful! • Revelation 2:10Do not be afraid of what you are about to suffer. I tell you, the devil will put some of you in prison to test you, and you will suffer persecution for ten days. Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you the crown of life.

  28. Lesson # 3 • You must have a sense of IDENTITY and DESTINY! • Know who you are… • Know who you will be… • Lead others the same…

  29. Identity and Destiny! • Baby Moses… • Hebrews 11:23By faith Moses' parents hid him for three months after he was born, because they saw he was no ordinary child, and they were not afraid of the king's edict. • What are you doing about what you see?

  30. Identity and Destiny! • Joseph… • Mary… • Simeon…

  31. Identity and Destiny! • Paul • Galatians 1:14-16 I was advancing in Judaism beyond many Jews of my own age and was extremely zealous for the traditions of my fathers. But when God, who set me apart from birth and called me by his grace, was pleased to reveal his Son in me so that I might preach him among the Gentiles…

  32. Identity and Destiny! • By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family. By his faith he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that comes by faith.

  33. Identity and Destiny! • God waited for Noah • 1 Peter 3:20who disobeyed long ago when God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ark was being built. In it only a few people, eight in all, were saved through water

  34. Identity and Destiny! • A vessel of Honor • 2 Timothy 2:20-21 In a large house there are articles not only of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay; some are for noble purposes and some for ignoble. If a man cleanses himself from the latter, he will be an instrument for noble purposes, made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any good work.

  35. Identity and Destiny! • Keep your lamps burning • Luke 12: 35-40 "Be dressed ready for service and keep your lamps burning, like men waiting for their master to return from a wedding banquet, so that when he comes and knocks they can immediately open the door for him. It will be good for those servants whose master finds them watching when he comes. I tell you the truth, he will dress himself to serve, will have them recline at the table and will come and wait on them.

  36. Identity and Destiny! • Nothing in life more painful than TOO LATE!!! • Esau • Moses

  37. Identity and Destiny! • It will be good for those servants whose master finds them ready, even if he comes in the second or third watch of the night. But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have let his house be broken into. You also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him."

  38. Identity and Destiny! • Help Others Discover Theirs As Well…

  39. Identity and Destiny! • Peter… • Luke 5:6-11 When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break. So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink. When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus' knees and said, "Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man!" For he and all his companions were astonished at the catch of fish they had taken, and so were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, Simon's partners. Then Jesus said to Simon, "Don't be afraid; from now on you will catch men." So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed him.

  40. Identity and Destiny! • Abraham • Peter • Zacheus

  41. Identity and Destiny! • Gideon • Judges 6:11-16 • The angel of the LORD came and sat down under the oak in Ophrah that belonged to Joash the Abiezrite, where his son Gideon was threshing wheat in a winepress to keep it from the Midianites. When the angel of the LORD appeared to Gideon, he said, "The LORD is with you, mighty warrior." "But sir," Gideon replied, "if the LORD is with us, why has all this happened to us? Where are all his wonders that our fathers told us about when they said, 'Did not the LORD bring us up out of Egypt?' But now the LORD has abandoned us and put us into the hand of Midian."

  42. Identity and Destiny! •  The LORD turned to him and said, "Go in the strength you have and save Israel out of Midian's hand. Am I not sending you?" "But Lord , "Gideon asked, "how can I save Israel? My clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my family." The LORD answered, "I will be with you, and you will strike down all the Midianites together
