  2. The nameoriginated in a letterwritten by someoneclaiming to be the murdererthat was widelydisseminated in the media. The identity of the killer of five – orpossiblysix – women.

  3. Between August and November 1888, the Whitechapelarea of London was the scene of five brutal murders. The killer was dubbed ‘Jack the Ripper’.

  4. The firstmurder, of Mary Ann Nicholls, took place on the 31st of August. Annie Chapman was killed on the 8th of September. ANNIE CHAPMAN MARY ANN NICHOLLS

  5. Elizabeth Stride and Catherine Eddowesweremurdered on the 30th of September and Mary Jane Kelly on the 9th of November.

  6. Theseareoftenreferred to as the ‘canonical five’ Rippermurders, althoughMartha Tabram, stabbed to death on the 6th of August 1888, isconsidered by some ‘ripperologists’ to be the first victim.

  7. Jack the Ripper was nevercaught and he is not thought to havekilledagainafterNovember 1888.
