Historical Context: Revolutions bring about many important changes.Task: For each revolution selected, identify two important changes brought about by this revolution. • Neolithic Revolution (8,000-3,000 B.C) • Industrial Revolution in England (1700’s) • French Revolution (1789) • Communist Revolution in China (1949) • Green Revolution in South Asia (1960’s-1970’s)

  3. Before: Nomads (people move around following the herds). Used to rely on hunting and gathering. Neolithic Revolution (8,000-3,000 B.C) ~ After: ~ they were farming ~ raised domestic animals. ~ For example to raised cows and horses

  4. Industrial Revolution in England • Begins in England during the 18th century • Before the Ind. Rev. people made products with their hands in their homes. Reasons for starting in Great Britain: • Water: Mills • Iron: used to build machines and to build steam boats. • Government: they loan people money to start businesses. • Labor: people moving to the countries to the cities in search for jobs • Inventions: Spinning Jenny helped increase production because it made things faster. • Coal: used for energy and is used to make steam.

  5. Pros it helps things get better and faster. People were able to travel with the steam engine. Labor laws passed. (children can’t work, made sure that the people got paid minimum wage). Cons Poor working conditions ( the children getting pulled into machines poor living conditions ( houses were cramped which lead to diseases being spread).   6. French Revolution (1789)Causes • Estate system: The 3 Estate system • 1 clergy • 2 nobles • 3 common people ( made up the majority ) Monarchy: King Louie was an absolute monarch. He did not give people rights and spent much of the tax money on his palace. Enlightment: Also known as the age of reason. During this time there were many thinkers who spoke about how people should have right ( natural rights ) and to have the government to protect your rights. John Locke: LLP – life liberty and property. Rousseau: social contract ( government has to protect the people and if they don’t the people have the right to replace the government). Popular soveringty ( people should have a role in the government)

Causes continued • American revolution: The American Revolution ended two centuries of British rule for most of the North American colonies and created the modern United States of America. • Taxes: The common people had to pay most of the taxes but they couldn’t because they barley had any money and if they did not pay the taxes their property will get taken away. • Rights and representation: The common people wanted more rights and representation in the estates general.

Effects of the French Revolution • The Declaration of Rights of Man: A document that discussed the rights that people should have such as freedom speech, freedom of press and assembly. • The Reign of Terror: This was lead by Robspiere. People got sent to the guillotine and got their heads chopped off ( King Louie 16th was the first to be killed). • Napoleon ends the reign of terror and becomes dictator of France. • Congress of Vienna kick out napoleon and bring in a monarchy.

  9. Communist Revolution in China (1949) • 1893 – 1976 Mao Zedong found the Chinese Republic. • He lead a peasant army • the little red book >>>> • Greatly forward  Cultural revolution  Mao and the communists did not like that fact that people might want the old china instead of the new.

Green Revolution in South Asia (1960’s-1970’s) • The Green Revolution began in 1945 when the Rockefeller Foundation and the Mexican government was established. • They built damns • The crops stopped growing • Agriculture was improved through the use of genetically modified • Their crops was improved
