  9. How does Industry benefit? • Customized curricula to serve as its Human Resource Centre. • Reduced induction period of fresh employees • Upgrade/ reskill/ train employees at a very competitive cost • Adopt CORE as its ‘Innovation-backyard’. • Access the resources and expertise available through network of TIFAC-COREs Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India TIFAC - MISSION REACH www.missionreach.org.in

  10. Thanks to Mission REACH, our S&T graduates don’t end up in Sales and Marketing!

  11. Widening Access- thru technology enhanced learning New initiatives by Mission REACH - e learning content system and enhanced learning centres - e outreach : content creation and distribution in open source Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India TIFAC - MISSION REACH www.missionreach.org.in

  12. E-learning - In support of ‘Indo-US Inter-University Collaborative Initiative in Higher Education and Research’ , this project was initiated on November, 2005. • RESOURCE PARTNERS : 15 leading US Universities - including Harvard, Princeton, Yale, U of California, Universities of Massachusetts, Washington, Texas, Illinois etc - RECIPIENTS : 42 Indian institutions networked by ISRO (EDUSAT) • TIFAC: Helping to create infrastructure for Content creation, editing, archival and dissemination • Nodal Point : Amrita University (Coimbatore) - Industry Partners: Microsoft, Qualcomm, Cadence Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India TIFAC - MISSION REACH www.missionreach.org.in

  13. E-learning-infrastructure e-learning content system(ECS) - digital course content creation - archival and distribution – both online and offline (open distributed learning repository) - transmitted by VSAT to 42 distance e-learning class rooms in Indian institutions • The curriculum is being delivered from the ECS at Amrita University • The system uses customized software ‘Trainnet’ (developed by ISRO)course delivery management. Trainnet software offers facilities like power point integration, course configuration, student registration, white board , separate window for interaction etc • ECS would be equipped with the advanced equipments for content creation, editing, storage and archival for localisation. • The classroom at the hub shall be equipped with all necessary equipments for telecast of the lecture live to all centers. Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India TIFAC - MISSION REACH www.missionreach.org.in

  14. E-learning- Programme management and monitoring • After a detailed interaction, the 42 recipient institutions agreed on a course content for selected subjects • This syllabus was sent to the US faculty for customising his lectures. • At each student node, a moderator (local faculty with domain knowledge) was identified; bridge between US faculty and students • Using enhanced content system(ECS) for localization (video editing and multimedia) • - Project Review and Monitoring: TIFAC Committee of Experts from ISRO, NIC, CDAC,IIT-Bombay, NIIT etc Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India TIFAC - MISSION REACH www.missionreach.org.in

  15. E-learning- launched in July-August 2006 Course delivery by faculty from US universities: - Engineering Electromagnetism by Dr.N.Narayana Rao, U of Illinois (July 10-Aug 11) 27 universities; 725 students (UG – EEE branch) - Solid state Electronic devices by Dr.Jose Schuttaine, U of Illinois (July 17-Aug 25) 22 universities; 500 students (UG – EIE and ECE branches) - Advanced Network Systems by Dr.Ramalingam Sridhar, SUNY, Buffalo(July 24-Aug 31) 25 universities; 325 students (PG ) Lecture duration : 90 mins including 15 minutes of Q & A Mechanisms for feedback from students and faculty(both US and Indian) have been built in. Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India TIFAC - MISSION REACH www.missionreach.org.in

  16. E-outreach-towards content creation Initiated at IIT-Bombay, Kanwal Rekhi School of Information Technology (KReSIT) Creation of contents and distribution in Open Source - three approaches: •  Courses, workshops or similar useful events conducted in the recent past or being conducted now and recorded at KReSIT, DEP studio • short-term courses, workshops and tutorials for students and teachers will be conducted, which would be recorded, edited and released   • Search for similar contents, if already available under Open Source will be carried out and the permission will be sought, if needed to copy and enhance this material, and release under e-outreach. Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India TIFAC - MISSION REACH www.missionreach.org.in

  17. E-outreach-towards content creation • Organization of four workshops (2×2- days and 2×5 days) in CS/IT areas and two five-day workshops in non-IT areas The specific topics planned initially are: - CS/IT: Algorithms, Data mining, Networks and Embedded systems - Mechanical Engineering: Automation-Robotics, Mechatronics & control - Chemical Engineering: Reaction engineering, Mass Transfer, and Fluid dynamics A full semester course on Information Systems will be created in Open Source Useful Open Source software and documentation will be compiled on a DVD Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India TIFAC - MISSION REACH www.missionreach.org.in
