ELEMENT OF THE DAY • 2 – Helium - He • Helium was the first element discovered by looking into space and observing the light given off by the sun. • The helium we use is extracted from natural gas and was formed by the decay of uranium and thorium (beta decay) • Disposable helium tanks often have added oxygen to prevent suffocation by children.
