  1. KINDLE FORMATTING GUIDE FOR SELF KINDLE FORMATTING GUIDE FOR SELF- -PUBLISHING WRITERS PUBLISHING WRITERS If you have tried to convert your written content to kindle format, you must agree that kindle formatting is not the easiest thing to do on the planet. If you are Self-publishing a book and looking for a tutorial on kindle eBook formatting, then stick to the article. eBook formatting is surely a tough job for an amateur due to plenty of conversion programs that promise to create clean kindle files, but when you start doing the conversion, you realize how much unclean files are popping up on your screen. 2. Writers usually write on word format and then try to do the kindle formatting and then number of issues erupt out of nowhere. Some common formatting issues are wacky spacing, entire chapters bolded and italicized, paragraphs cut into pieces, text splitting up and even flowing behind the picture, and many more issues just go and on. Some of the extra added characters in the book can make the file a junk file in kindle format. These characters could be bullet points, graphics, tables, etc. Type it Clean and Correct To avoid facing issues like ‘unclean file’ or ‘junk file’ while doing kindle formatting, you should write or rewrite cleanly. Put the MS word or other software that you choose to write, on default and do as less customization as possible because customization may become the reason for the formation of the junk code in the file. You should also refrain from hitting enter again and again to enter the next page or paragraph. Try to write as clean as possible and without much customization.

  3. Insert Page Breaks Open your document, places the cursor where the section or chapter begins and then hit the ‘enter’ while pressing the ‘ctrl’ key at the same time. This way, you will be able to put each section on a new page and doing so will insert the proper code for the Kindle file. Apply Styles You can start at the top of the document and apply the default “Heading 1” style to each chapter title, and you can apply the “Heading 2” style to any subheadings that you would like to see to appear in the table of contents. You can do this while writing your book too, as it will make your book more easily understandable. No eBook comes without the table of contents, so it is important to put these styles in your book.

  4. Create a Table of Contents If your document is on Microsoft word file, making TOC becomes relatively easy because MS word has the ‘TOC’ commands specialized for Table of contents. You can find the ‘TOC’ command under the reference tab; you can also click the ‘Help’ menu to get the job done. Microsoft word has a built-in facility to make TOC exactly as you want you can decide which subheading should be seen on TOC for example if you want ‘Heading 3’ to be shown in TOC you can change the settings accordingly. Convert to MOBI Once you have successfully eliminated the issues like junk code and unclean file by following the steps from 1 to 4 now, this is the time to convert your file to MOBI. MOBI file is the format of the file that is used in Kindle formats and apps. You can use a tool to create the MOBI file. Kindle previewer app allows you to preview what your eBook will look like in kindle devices. However, it can’t show everything the same way it will be shown on an actual Kindle device. So, you can open your MOBI file on an actual Kindle device. This way, you will see how the eBook looks before it is officially published as an eBook.

  5. With these tips, you can ensure that the formatting of your eBook is spot-on before you release it for Kindle. If you do not want to go through the intricate process of converting your eBook for Kindle, then alphaebook.com can help you complete the task in an efficient and time-bound manner.
