  5. The deference between print and eBooks An eBook is quite simply a book in an electronic format. It can be read on an eReader – either on your computer with eReading software, or specific devices like the Amazon Kindle, the iPad, the Nook by Barnes & Noble, or the Sony Reader. eBooks definitely look similar to print books. Headings, paragraphs and even lists typically look and work like they do in print. Some advanced formatting features such as hyperlinks on say, footnotes, and images that are scalable in propor- tion to the eReader’s screen size are possible in eBook formats. To understand the differences between print and electronic book formatting, here’s a basic guideline: while formatting possibilities in print are technically limitless, once the final product - the physical book - is format- ted for print, making changes to the content or the layout of the book is a painstaking process. ePublishing is different in the sense that it keeps the content and presentation of your book separate. This means that features like fonts and page size can be altered as and when your book is being read on any eReader device, even after your book has been formatted. 5

  7. Why publish an eBook? Here are a couple of reasons why you should choose to publish an eBook: 1) Reach wider audiences. Sales data is proving that eBook demand is only going to increase. According to industry experts, the adult eReader user base in the US alone is poised to grow at double-digit percentages this year and the next. Also, the Online Publishers Association (OPA) has found that tablets encouraged book purchases. As eMarketer reported, in March 2012, 35% of US tablet owners purchased ebooks on their devic- es—more than the number who bought movies or TV shows, purchased maga- zine or newspaper subscriptions, or bought single copies of magazines, according to OPA. As more and more consumers acquire tablets and other eReading devices, it will only be beneficial for you to have your book in eBook formats. 2) eBooks are not only practical and profitable, they are economical too. You choose the price you want to sell your book at. You make more royalty with us as compared to some of the other bigger ePublishing service providers in the market. And you don’t have to worry about how many “copies” to run a print of, how much “shipping” your book to readers would cost you, or the painstaking regimen involved in re-printing your book. 5 7

  8. What exactly are ePub and Mobi eBook formats? ePub and Mobi formats are compatible with eReader devices and enable them to properly display an eBook file. While ePub is com- monly used by the iPad, Nook and other eReaders, Mobi is exclu- sive to the Amazon Kindle. What’s an Enhanced eBook? An enhanced eBook comes with audio and video integration, “read along” fea- ture, internal/ external linking, interactive page navigation, pop-up graphics & 3D images, and last but not the least, animation. An enhanced eBook essentially move the reader from “reading” to “experienc- ing.” It is engaging, captivating because it interacts with the reader, making learning and understanding easier and more fun than a plain eBook. The ideal markets for enhanced eBooks are: • Cookbooks • Travel Books • Maintenance Manuals • Text Books • D-I-Y Books • Children’s Books • Training Manuals We have a team of talented and dedicated designers, software experts, artists and content developers who will work closely with you to transform your ideas into exquisite enhanced eBook products. 8

  9. What are eBook Apps? An eBook App is a customized, multimedia-rich interactive content product for a smartphone or tablet. Some of the features of an eBook App are: • Dictionary, text search and book marking • Internal and external linking • Gaming Functionality • Email and voice memo • Social media • Font settings and text highlighting • Full color audio/ video Our skilled architects will build a cost-effective App for your eBook using prebuilt templates and this would be ideal for Travel Guides, Product Catalogs, Service Manuals, Annual Reports, Textbooks, and Children’s Books. What is an ISBN? ISBN or International Standard Book Number, is a unique identification code for books and related products the world over. The present day ISBN has 13 digits and is embedded with five distinct identi- ties. ISBNs are assigned by over 160 ISBN agencies spread across the world. Each agency is responsible for assigning numbers within a country or over a particular geographic area. Traditional book and eBook publishers, audio and video producers, software developers and those associated with any other publishing services solicit ISBNs. 9

  10. ISBNs are also assigned for backlisting or forthcoming titles. And books of every order, be it hardcover, paperback, eBook, audio or video are required to have separate ISBNs. It must also be noted that revised versions and editions call for new ISBNs. ISBNs are sold in blocks of 10 or 100 by agencies and are acquired by publishers depending on their future needs. It typically takes about 2 weeks to process non-priority ISBN applications. There is also priority processing (48 hours) and express processing (24 hours) from the time of receipt of application. There is a standard service fee for all ISBN applications, and express and priority processing do warrant higher fees. The benefit of having an ISBN is that it is compatible with bar code readers. Allocating ISBNs is part of the standard publishing packages at eBooks2go. What is eBook distribution? eBook distribution involves submitting your eBook and its title data (author, publisher, price, related information) to major online retailers of eBooks, such as Amazon.com, Apple’s iBookstore, BarnesAndNoble.com, many more.
