  7. Data • The OIP process requires the use of objective data • OAA, OGT, KRAL, IOWA, Gates MacGinite, Renaissance, Study Island, ACT • However, the key is not data-collection, but using data to make decisions. • This requires sharing data with as many staff members as possible, reviewing the data to learn from it, and using it to gauge progress • It has also expanded our search for data into student mobility, open enrollment, behavior, parental involvement. • It is difficult to move from “what I believe to be true” to “what the data tells me”

  8. Inclusion • The OIP process demands involvement by the superintendent, board members, community members, staff, administration, etc. • By creating a District Leadership Team with broad participation, Clearview established a climate of shared leadership. • This inclusiveness could then spread though the BLT, RttT, • However, there is always a need to remind folks of the reason for our organizations: • Students Achievement.

  9. Leadership • Beyond a Doubt, the Building Principal is the Key • The Best Laid Plans go far afield without the Support and Guidance of a Strong Building Leader. • An Ability to Take Charge as well as an Ability to allow staff to Share Leadership • The Capacity to Understand and Use Data • A Real Desire to see Students Achieve

  10. Vincent • Posting Goals • Walk-Throughs • RTI Meetings • Tiering Students • Sub-Group ID • Intervention • Grade Level Meetings • Accelerated Reader Motivation • Renaissance PD • Staff Meetings as PD

  11. Priorities Matter • Compliance to The Third Grade Guarantee can be achieved in a multitude of ways: • Fail students who are below grade level. • Label struggling students as Learning Disabled • Increase the Reading Ability of all students so that 100% (of those capable) are reading on level. • All but the 3rd option simply extends the problem. • By defining the problem as “How to Increase Student Reading Ability” one’s energy and focus is on the solution, not on the band-aid.

  12. Just One More • As we worked with the data identifying: • students who did well • students who were improving • students who were in one sub-group when we thought they should be in another • We could better identify: • needs in the curriculum • needs in the classroom • needs in instructional pedagogy • Clearview has a a lot of room for improvement, but the progress made makes each further step a little bit shorter. • One more proficient student each year brings us that much closer to 100%
