  2. What does a Metadata Librarian do? • Project-based work • Usually non-MARC based • Typically programmatic or automated solutions • Provides services • Development of metadata & schemas • Design of data model and access • Consulting on metadata • Production of metadata

  3. Who do we work with? • Faculty • Library Staff • Curators (internal/external) • Publishers/Vendors

  4. When does the work come? • Unpredictable • Domino effect

  6. What do we work with? • Multimedia • Image collections • Research data • Bibliographic metadata • Anything…

  7. Why? • Mediate information decisions and software needs • Work with anything • Does not need to be well structured • The go-betweens with programmers, catalogers, curators, researchers… • Deal with longevity, migration, re-use, big picture issues • Extent resources and metadata beyond its original intent • Project management issues like budget, workflows, etc.
