Background • CBS-EXT 1998 initiated the concept to develop a guide for NMHSs to develop and implement Internet services • First version finalized in May 2000 • Second version developed in October 2003 • Latest revised version (English) ready in September 2006 ISS/Expert Team on WIS-GTS Communication Techniques and Structure (ET-CTS)TOULOUSE, France, 26 - 30 MAY 2008

Nature of the document • Should provide guidance for NMHSs to use in developing and implementing Internet services • to provide information to the public and • to promote the NMHSs. • Should include advice on what data to put on servers, how the data should be named or described, how it should be accessed, and how the server and the data it contained could be protected from unauthorised use.
