  8. Establishment of Jansankhya Sthirata Kosh (JSK), National Population Stabilisation Fund. JSK has been registered as an autonomous Society established under the Societies Registration Act of 1860. JSK has to promote and undertake activities aimed at achieving population stabilisation at a level consistent with the needs of sustainable economic growth, social development and environment protection, by 2045.

JSK’S Prerna Strategy •  “Prerna” provides an opportunity for couples who have fulfilled specific responsible parenthood criteria to become entitled to receive a reward for breaking stereo-types. The ingredients to qualify are:- • Girl’s marriage after 19 years of age (Reward of Rs.5000/) and giving birth to the first child after she is 21 years old (Reward of Rs.7000/ if it’s a girl child & Rs 5000/ if it’s a boy) • Keeping a 36 month gap between first and second child and one parent getting sterilized (within 1 year from the date of birth of the 2nd child) after the second child is born (Reward of Rs.7000/ if it’s a girl child & Rs 5000/ if it’s a boy)

Mean age at effective marriage of female in Rajasthan is 16.4 (Source: SRS, 2006). 65% of girls married between 15-17 years in Rajasthan.

JSK’s Call Centre Strategy • JSK has started a Call Centre to give information on reproductive health, family planning and infant health in English and Hindi, using computer based software. • The software was prepared by the Maulana Azad Medical College and Technical training was imparted by St.Stephens Hospital. Need for Call Centre • Suggested by leading gynaecologists from AIIMS/ MAMC/ Lady Hardinge Medical College to overcome lack of information on reproductive health and family planning. • Although general knowledge about family planning has reached 98% of the population, the use of contraception is extremely limited.

The Call Centre Number is 011-66665555 Callers have appreciated the personalized information provided anonymously. The fact there is no commercial interest in promoting any product has also reassured callers. Target group The service seeks to serve the EAG states of Bihar, Jharkhand, Chattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, UP where socio-cultural factors prevent easy access to authentic information.

JSK’s Santushti Strategy An opportunity for private sector O&G / Empanelled General surgeons, to perform sterilization operations in private nursing homes, after receiving an advance of Rs.15,000/-. Rs. 1,50,000 given for 100 cases. Rs. 500 per case extra given if 30 cases at a time are done.

  25. JSK’s Santushti Strategy • Total of 40 MOU’s have been signed in Satna, Jabalpur and Ujjain district of Madhya Pradesh State and Jodhpur district in Rajasthan. • Orissa State wants 52 private accredited facilities to join hands with JSK to implement Santushti.

JSK’s Mindset Change Poster Strategy • JSK prepared mindset change posters which address family members to give the girl a chance to be in good health before she produces a child. • The posters can be downloaded by any organisation and they can fix their own logo and display the posters at places like post offices, rural banks, fertiliser depots, shops or any place where public congregates. • This is one way of promoting mindset changes by involving civil society.

  29. JSK’s IUCD 380 A Strategy • To encourage sector gynaecologists to use IUCD 380A provided by JSK • 250 gynaecologists have been trained. • 50,000 pieces being provided to trained O & G practitioners under FOGSI umbrella.

JSK’sVirtual Resource Centre Strategy Virtual Resource Centre (VRC) is designed to provide access NGO’s, Films, posters, photos on subjects related to gender, maternal and infant health, the declining sex ratio, adolescent health, birth spacing etc. It can be viewed and downloaded. Material is provided on CD for free.
