  7. Midcourse Review Purpose • Report progress toward the national health promotion and disease prevention objectives • Assess progress toward Healthy People 2010’s two overarching goals

  8. Midcourse Review Purpose 3. Determine which developmental objectives and subobjectives will be retained or eliminated for lack of baseline data 4. Reveals areas that are facing challenges 5. Monitor trends

  9. Midcourse Review:Tracking Trends: • Which objectives are moving towards their targets? • Which objectives are moving away from their targets? • Which objective measures show no change? • Are there objective measures for which progress cannot be assessed?

  10. Midcourse Review:Tracking Gaps: • Have the objectives progressed towards the elimination of disparities? • Data gaps, i.e., among population groups • Data sources

Midcourse ReviewModifications Modifications are made in the following ways: • Changes in wording, text, or language of an objective • Use of a new and/or different data source • Moving developmental objective to measurable • Dropping objectives or subobjectives if data is not available • Correction of errors and omissions

Midcourse ReviewModificationRationale • Ensure that the objectives reflect the most current science and data, remain relevant and data reflect the Healthy People 2010 in order to • Accurately present the data sources and what is measured • Assess the progress towards HP2010’s goals, and ensure sure that the nation is moving closer to meeting the goals for 2010
