  1. Reading Nathaniel Hawthorne’s Young Goodman Brown 11th Grade English

Objective The 11thgrade English class will be able to: Evaluate author’s purpose Interpret and explain literary devices Analyze themes, characterization, voice, & tone & Extend vocabulary through group work in which they will create an 8-10 minute presentation with a PowerPoint using online sources (articles, blogs, YouTube videos) with 100% accuracy by the end of one week.

  3. Day by Day Students will have the remainder of class on Wednesday and all class period Thursday to work on this presentation. Groups will useblog posts, articles, & YouTube videos as resources. The PowerPoint presentation must incorporate historical background information, important symbolism, character analyses of each character, tone throughout the story, the theme and authors purpose. Groups will incorporate their digitally created images into the PowerPoint. The final page should have proper citations. All sources should be linked to Delicious account. The PowerPoint is merely a visual aid to help students presenting. It is not to read from word for word. Note cards are allowed.

  4. Media and Materials • Students will be able to access online databases such as EBSCOhost and Google Scholar along with less formal blogs and articles referencing different interpretations and literary analyses/criticisms of Nathaniel Hawthorne’s Young Goodman Brown. • Students can view various adaptations of Young Goodman Brownvia YouTube. • Microsoft PowerPoint will be utilized to portray information learned to the rest of the class in an organized manner.
