Draw: Further Understanding: How does Magical Realism connect to agency? *Magical realism can sometimes set-up a plot for a character so that the character will have to express his/her agency in accordance to the plot, EXAMPLE: Erendira’s “Wind of misfortune” *When the author uses magical realism, it helps to show how they view the world and also so the character can get his/her agency *Agency is your power, you can create your own agency through use of magical realism *Magical realism can create the character and it influences the decisions that this character makes *A character can express his/her agency through use of an element of magical realism (i.e. Ulises changing objects’ color)

Review of HW over the weekend • With the person sitting next to you, write four plot points about what happened in the weekend HW reading • Erendira’ s“wind of misfortune” burns the mansion down. As a result, she has to pay her grandmother back by becoming a prostitute. • Erendira and her grandmother leave town because there are • They travel through the desert and set-up a tent for their business • Ulises, the son of a smuggler, tells Erendira that he has to leave in the morning. They have a connection and he falls in love with her • Missionairies come to the tent and they tell her to stop because it is wrong. • The missionairies kidnap Erendira. • Grandmother will not get Erendira back until Erendira marries or the grandmother gets a letter from a senator proving she is moral • The grandmother tries to marry Erendira off to a villager, and then Erendira runs away to be with her grandmother. • Then Ulises comes back to get Erendira.
