    1. 1 Routers Multiport device – L3 device that has been historically slower than switches or bridges because they are concerned with L3 info and are protocol dependant Can connect dissimilar LANs and WANs running at different transmission speeds and using a variety of protocols Traditional LAN routers are being replaced by L3 switches that support routing functions Still the box of choice for WAN connectivity
