  3. Focus • Fitness for registration = safety to practice • Competence in current performance should be assessed in the field of practice in which registrant performs • System should identify those unfit for registration to protect patients • Should not impose unnecessary burden to comply

  4. Main Domains • COMMUNICATION • PROFESSIONALISM • CLINICAL • MANAGEMENT and LEADERSHIP

Methods of assessment • FGDP(UK) Key Skills • Work based assessments • Appraisal and MSF/PAQ’s • Audit and peer review • Clinical Governance procedures-3rd party validation • Record keeping-3rd party validation • CPD with mandatory topics • Professional Examinations and Training programmes • Quality Assurance systems –Independent Health care systems—CQC Implications 2011? • PDPs

Methodology • Each registrant will be required to complete a portfolio of evidence-Paper or e- version?—evidence is registrants responsibility! • First validation following period of provisional registration for all registrants? • Step one-sift of 10% registrants—maybe a points accrual process • Step two-assessment in practice setting and targeted assessments-validation or moves to-- • Step three—Robust in depth assessment –professional exam-ORE?–may lead to removal from register! • Repeated every five years?
