  1. The 2012-2013 District Service Initiative: Living Healthy, Living Life

  2. What does it mean? • Eating healthy • Drink plenty of water • Exercise regularly • Reduce stress • Get enough sleep • Minimize toxins, no drugs

Living Healthy, Living Life • This year's DSI can be promoted in a variety of ways, however, education is one of the most helpful tools. • Encourage healthier lifestyles through food choice • No more junk food or soda • Replace cravings with a salad or water • Aid people of all ages to replace bad habits with healthier habits

  4. Living Healthy, Living Life • Support the community in the prevention of health-related diseases by helping raise awareness • Spread awareness of the consequences of long-term habits • A poor diet may lead to obesity, diabetes, heart disease in not only adults, but children too!

  5. Emphasize the necessity of exercise for people of all ages • Everyone needs a minimum of 30 minutes to an hour of exercise everyday • Cut back on gaming and TV!

  6. The DSI in not limited to the physical well-being but it can also be extended to promoting mental wellness.

  7. Ways to help promote healthy minds: • finding coping strategies to reduce stress • creating awareness of mental conditions • acting as positive role models in our communities • promoting happiness

  8. Possible Service Projects • Walks or runs that promote a healthy lifestyle • Relay for Life, American Heart Walk, Arthritis Foundation Walk • Coach/ volunteer for a sports team for kids • Health fairs • Educate children with booths and games • Care packages or cookbooks to distribute to low-income families • Make blankets to donate to homeless shelters

  9. Possible Service Projects • Create and participate in activities for at risk youth. • teaching a dance workshop at a Boys & Girls Club • Volunteer as a tutor • Organize a social for hospice residents • Free Hugs Campaign
