  1. Physical Education . SPRING TERM 2014 Information for Parents and children Welcome back! We hope you had a good Christmas break and are ready for a busy spring term. We are looking forward to some new and exciting challenges! Mrs. E. De Jersey, Mrs van Vliet and Miss. A. Beebe PE PE lessons continue on a Tuesday starting with a range of activities for 5 weeks with Ollie from the Sports’ Commission and then some gymnastics. Please ensure that your child has their PE kit, including trainers and a warm jumper. Tracksuit trousers are advisable in the cold weather. Where am I ? We look forward to meeting parents on open evenings but do not hesitate to make contact if there are any worries or concerns.

  2. Topic As you may have heard Norman the Gnome has gone missing from Mr McGovern’s garden and we are going to try to track him down so this term’s topic work will be based on the theme All Around the World, which will involve exploring our world from various viewpoints. The theme allows us to draw on a variety of skills across the curriculum - Geography, History, Art, ICT, Music, Science, Literacy and Numeracy, in order to provide a rich, memorable curriculum that is relevant to the children’s own lives. Homework Reading: please hear your child read aloud regularly for at least 10 minutes and try out some of the questions on the suggestions sheet you received in the autumn as it will greatly benefit your child’s reading and comprehension skills. All reading should be recorded in their reading record. Spellings and/or word work will be given on a Wednesday. Please practice the spellings with your child on a daily basis and check any word work they complete. Maths homework will be set by the maths group teacher and should be recorded in their homework diaries. (Days may differ according to the teacher). Please encourage your child to be organised, a life skill which they will always need. Thank you. RE Topics that we will be looking at this term are: Christmas, Revelation and Lent as detailed in the separate leaflet you received last week. Numeracy Group lessons will continue to develop the children’s learning in the following areas; Counting and Understanding Number, Knowing and Using Number Facts, Calculating, Understanding Shape, Measuring, Handling Data and Using and Applying. Remember to encourage your child to use Mathletics each week as this reinforces work completed in class. Regular times tables practice is valuable time spent as recall ensures progress in many mathematical areas. Literacy We will continue with our word work lessons in groups, focussing this term on grammar and punctuation. In our classes we will be exploring stories from other cultures and creating travel brochures through persuasive writing.
