  5. Stages of Hebrew Marriage 1). Betrothal Stage - legal enactment initiated by the groom’s father pledging his son to a chosen girl. As part of the transaction a dowry was paid by the groom’s father.

  6. Christ Betrothed to the Church Just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love. Ephesians 1:3, 4 For I am jealous for you with godly jealously. For I have betrothed you to one husband that I might present you as a chaste virgin to Christ. 2 Corinthians 11:2

  7. Dowry Paid For you were bought with a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s. 1 Corinthians 6:20 Knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot. 1 Peter 1: 18, 19

  8. Stages of Hebrew Marriage 1). Betrothal Stage - legal enactment initiated by the groom’s father pledging his son to a chosen girl. As part of the transaction a dowry was paid by the groom’s father. 2). Presentation Stage - Bridegroom would go with his friends to the bride’s house to escort her in a procession to her new home where a private marriage ceremony would be conducted.

  9. Presentation Stage In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. John 14:2, 3

  10. 3). Celebration Stage - After the private wedding, the public celebration would begin, usually lasting seven days. The extent of the celebration was dependent upon economic status.

  11. Celebration Stage But I say to you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in the My Father’s kingdom. Matt 26:29 And I say to you that many will come from east and west, and sit down with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven. Matt 8:11

  12. For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord 1 Thessalonians 4:16, 17

  18. “Behold, the days are coming,” says the Lord…I will plant them in their land, and no longer shall they be pulled up from the land I have given them,” says the Lord your God. Amos 9:15 They shall inherit the land forever, the branch of My planting, the work of My hands, that I may be glorified. Isaiah 60:21

  19. New Testament Expectations 1. Mary Luke 1:31-33 2. Zacharias Luke 1:68-75 3. Simeon Luke 2:25-32 4. Anna Luke 2:36-38 5. John the Baptist Matt 3:1, 2 6. Jesus Matt 4:17 7. Apostles Acts 1:1-3 8. Sons of Zebedee Matt 20:20-33 9. Restoration Acts 1:6, 7; 3:19-21

  20. Duration of the Kingdom Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, having the key to the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. He laid hold of the dragon, that serpent of old, who is the Devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years; and he cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal on him, so that he should deceive the nations no more till the thousand years were finished. But after these things he must be released for a little while. And I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was committed to them. Then I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for their witness to Jesus and for the word of God, who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received his mark on their foreheads or on their hands. And they lived and reigned with Christ for a thousand years. But the rest of the dead did not live again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection. Blessed and holy is he who has part in the first resurrection. Over such the second death has no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him a thousand years. Now when the thousand years have expired, Satan will be released from his prison and will go out to deceive the nations which are in the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle, whose number is as the sand of the sea. Revelation 20:1-7

  21. General Characteristics of the Messianic Kingdom Righteousness Lord, who may abide in your tabernacle? Who may dwell on Your holy hill? He who walks uprightly, and works righteousness, and speaks the truth in his heart; he who does not backbite with his tongue, nor does evil to his neighbor, nor does he take up a reproach against his friend; In whose eyes a vile person is despised, but he honors those who fear the Lord; he who swears to his own hurt and does not change; he who does not put out his money at usury, nor does he take a bribe against the innocent. He who does these things shall never be moved. Psalm 15:1-5

  22. Who may ascend into the hill of the Lord? Or who may stand in His holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who has not lifted up his soul to an idol, nor sworn deceitfully. He shall receive blessing from the Lord, and righteousness from the God of his salvation. Psalm 24:2-4

  23. General Characteristics of the Messianic Kingdom Prosperity I will make them and the places all around My hill a blessing; and I will cause showers to come down in their season; there shall be showers of blessing. Then the trees of the field shall yield their fruit, and the earth shall yield her increase. They shall be safe in their land; and they shall know that I am the Lord, when I have broken the bands of their yoke and delivered them from the hand of those who enslaved them. Ezekiel 34:26-27

  24. I will raise up for them a garden of renown, and they shall no longer be consumed with hunger in the land, nor bear the shame of the Gentiles anymore. Thus they shall know that I, the Lord their God, am with them, and they, the house of Israel, are My people,” says the Lord GOD.’” Ezekiel 34:29-30 Behold, the days are coming,” says the Lord, “When the plowman shall overtake the reaper, and the treader of grapes him who sows seed; the mountains shall drip with sweet wine, and all the hills shall flow with it. I will bring back the captives of My people Israel; they shall build the waste cities and inhabit them; they shall plant vineyards and drink wine from them; they shall also make gardens and eat fruit from them. Amos 9:13-14

  25. General Characteristics of the Messianic Kingdom Universal Peace Now it shall come to pass in the latter days that the mountain of the Lord’s house shall be established on the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow to it. Many nations shall come and say, “Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob; He will teach us His ways, and we shall walk in His paths.” For out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem. He shall judge between the nations, and rebuke many people; they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore. Isaiah 2:2-4

  26. In that day I will make a covenant for them with the beasts of the field, with the birds of the air, and with the creeping things of the ground. Bow and sword of battle I will shatter from the earth, to make them lie down safely. Hosea 2:18 I will make a covenant of peace with them, and cause wild beasts to cease from the land; and they will dwell safely in the wilderness and sleep in the woods.  Ezekiel 34:25 And they shall no longer be a prey for the nations, nor shall beasts of the land devour them; but they shall dwell safely, and no one shall make them afraid.  Ezekiel 34:28

  27. The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, the leopard shall lie down with the young goat, the calf and the young lion and fatling together; and a little child shall lead them. The cow and the bear shall graze; their young ones shall lie down together; and the lion shall eat straw like the ox. The nursing child shall play by the cobra’s hole, and the weaned child shall put his hand in the viper’s den. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all My holy mountain, for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea. Isaiah 11:6-9

  28. General Characteristics of the Messianic Kingdom Renewed Earth For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth; and the former shall not be remembered or come to mind. But be glad and rejoice forever in what I create; for behold, I create Jerusalem as a rejoicing, and her people a joy. I will rejoice in Jerusalem and joy in My people; the voice of the weeping shall no longer be heard in her, nor the voice of crying. No more shall an infant from there live but a few days, nor an old man who has not fulfilled his days; for the child shall die one hundred years old, but the sinner being one hundred years old shall be accursed. They shall build houses and inhabit them; they shall plant vineyards and eat their fruit. They shall not build and another inhabit; they shall not plant and another eat; for as the days of a tree, so shall be the days of My people, and My elect shall long enjoy the work of their hands. They shall not labor in vain, nor bring forth children for trouble; for they shall be the descendants of the blessed of the Lord, and their offspring with them. Isaiah 65:17-25

  29. General Characteristics of the Messianic Kingdom Birth and Death They shall not labor in vain, nor bring forth children for trouble; for they shall be the descendants of the blessed of the Lord, and their offspring with them. Isaiah 65:23 No more shall an infant from there live but a few days, nor an old man who has not fulfilled his days; for the child shall die one hundred years old, but the sinner being one hundred years old shall be accursed. Isaiah 65:20

  30. General Characteristics of the Messianic Kingdom Unbelief Among Gentiles Only Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah - not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt, My covenant which they broke, though I was a husband to them, says the Lord. But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days , says the Lord; I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. No more shall every man teach his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, “Know the Lord,” for they all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them, says the Lord. For I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more. Jeremiah 31:31-34

  31. For the Lord will be your everlasting light,  and the days of your mourning shall be ended. Also your people shall all be righteous; they shall inherit the land forever, the branch of My planting, the work of My hands, that I may be glorified. Isaiah 60:20-21

  32. General Characteristics of the Messianic Kingdom Instantaneous Response From God It shall come to pass that before they call, I will answer; and while they are still speaking, I will hear. Isaiah 65:24

  33. General Characteristics of the Messianic Kingdom Learning Now it shall come to pass in the latter days that the mountain of the Lord’s house shall be established on the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and peoples shall flow to it. Many nations shall come and say,”Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob; He will teach us His ways, and we shall walk in His paths.” For out of Zion the law shall go forth, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem. Micah 4: 1, 2

  34. All your children shall be taught by the Lord, and great shall be the peace of your children. In righteousness you shall be established; you shall be far from oppression, for you shall not fear; and from terror, for it shall not come near you. Isaiah 54: 13-14

  35. Worship in the Messianic Kingdom And it shall come to pass that everyone who is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall go up from year to year to worship the King, the Lord of hosts, and to keep the Feast of Tabernacles.  Zechariah 14:16 Animal Sacrifice Cleansing the sanctuary Ezek. 45:18 Atonement for general population Ezek. 45:20 Passover Ezek. 45:21 Sabbath and New Moon Ezek. 46:1-7 Daily Ezek. 46:13

  39. The Church and Tribulation Saints Do you not know that the saints will judge the world? 1 Corinthians 6:2 And I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was committed to them. Then I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for their witness to Jesus and for the word of God, who had not worshipped the beast or his image, and had not received his mark on their foreheads or on their hands. 43. David But they shall serve the Lord their God, and David their king whom I will raise up for them. Jeremiah 30:9 I will establish one shepherd over them, and he shall feed them - My servant David. He shall feed them and be their shepherd. And I, the Lord, will be their God, and My servant David, a prince among them; I, the Lord, have spoken. Ezekiel 34:23, 24

  44. David David My servant shall be king over them, and they shall all have one shepherd; they shall also walk in My judgments and observe My statutes, and do them. Then they shall dwell in the land I have given to Jacob My servant, where your fathers dwelt; and they shall dwell there, they, their children, and their children’s children, forever; and My servant David shall be their prince forever. Ezekiel 37:24, 25 For the children of Israel shall abide many days without king or prince, without sacrifice or sacred pillar, without ephod or teraphim. Afterward the children of Israel shall return and seek the Lord their God and David their king. They shall fear the Lord and His goodness in the latter days. Hosea 3:4, 5

  45. And on that day the prince shall prepare for himself and all the people of the land a bull for a sin offering. Ezekiel 45:22 Thus says the Lord God: If the prince gives a gift of some of his inheritance to any of his sons, it shall belong to his sons; it is their possession by inheritance. But if he gives a gift of some of his inheritance to one of his servants, it shall be his until the year of liberty, after which it shall return to the prince. But his inheritance shall belong to his sons; it shall become theirs. Moreover the prince shall not take any of the people’s inheritance for his sons from his own property, so that none of My people may be scattered from his property. Ezekiel 46: 16-18

  46. Government in the Messianic Kingdom David The Twelve Apostles Matt 19:28; Lk 22: 28-30

  47. Twelve Apostles So Jesus said to them, Assuredly I say to you, that in the regeneration, when the Son of Man sits on the throne of His glory, you who have followed Me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. Matthew 19:28 But you are those who have continued with Me in My trials. And I bestow upon you a kingdom, just as My Father bestowed one upon Me, that you may eat and drink at My table in My kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel. Luke 22:28-30

  48. Government in the Messianic Kingdom

  49. Princes Behold, a king will reign in righteousness, and princes will rule with justice. Isaiah 32:1 The land shall be his possession in Israel; and My princes shall no more oppress My people, but they shall give the rest of the land to the house of Israel, according to their tribes.
