It is the craziest thing to see people blowing leaves from one part of the yard to another, only to have the wind come up, and move the leaves  around once again!  How many times have you seen some landscape guy using a blower to move grass clippings from a yard to the street, which creates particulate pollution, noise pollution, and results only in the clippings moving around again at the next wind.   The answer is simple. Don’t use them.  Use the old fashioned but effective ideas of a rake or a broom.  You will be doing your small part to help the environment, and will save money by not consuming electricity or gasoline to fuel the blower.

Use your organic materials—leaves, plant debris, trimmings from vegetables and other produce, and do the simple act of composting them . You can use this compost in place of synthetic fertilizers in your garden and flower beds, and not only save money, but reduce the run off of things that are detrimental to our water supplies.
